Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista 600.2 Integrated Announced
Musical Fidelity reveals its "fine-tuned" Nu-Vista 600.2 will be available at the start of 2025.
Musical Fidelity opens with the following statement: "The Nu-Vista 600.2 is a much bigger update than our previous Nu-Vista 800 to 800.2 reissue," hinting at a major overhaul of the integrated amplifier rather than a mere refresh. Go and check out our review of the 800.2 integrated amplifier.
The Nu-Vista 600.2 is strictly analogue and boasts a dual mono design, multi-array power supply, pre- and power section filtering, and a "beautiful Class-A tube stage consisting of highly famed nuvistor tubes." The stated output is 160W into 8 ohms, 300W into 4 ohms, 500W peaks into 2 ohms.
Starting with the more minor changes, component-level improvements include changing the old input switching IC to relays for better separation and dynamics. Additionally, the company states it has only used the "highest quality polypropylene capacitors" throughout the signal path.
A more significant change is seen in the 600.2 using Musical Fidelity's laser-trimmed volume control for +/- 0.5dB gain error even at lower levels. Furthermore, according to the brand, the power amp, preamp and nuvistor stage layout have been significantly revised and improved.
Preamp circuits have been removed from the back panel PCB and are now built on a self-screening tray at the top of the unit, resulting in less noise and distortion as it's protected from heavy current power supplies. The Nu-Vista stage has been taken from the manufacturer's PRE/PAS/PAM and features 6S51N nuvistors in a discrete class A amplifier buffer located on the new top layer PCB.
The preamplifier, nuvistor, and input circuits are now fully dual mono with separate left/right power supplies. The Nu-Vista 600.2 also only uses an SMPSU in standby mode.
The new layout improves performance and enables the rear panel to support two balanced XLR inputs to cater for Nu-Vista Vinyl and Nu-Vista DAC, for instance. A balanced XLR preamp output has also been added, and all line outputs are now separately buffered, resulting in no interference between devices connected to any of the preamp outputs, so we are told.
You also get four pairs of line-level RCA inputs and a pair of line-level RCA outputs. Meanwhile, two pairs of 4mm banana plug/ binding posts are also offered.
Musical Fidelity is also proud that the Nu-Vista 600.2 benefits from its Titan design, bringing it up to par with its bigger 800.2 sibling and the esteemed PRE/PAS/PAM range. Here, each output device (transistor) is given a corresponding high-current bulk supply capacitor, which allows more immediate access to stored energy, with a much lower impedance path to flow through. This translates to better transient response and coincidently provides a degree of improved ripple filtering at higher currents in conjunction with the supply capacitors situated elsewhere."
Finally, the 36kg, 187x483x510 mm [HxWxD] Nu-Vista 600.2 shares its stablemate's massive construction with front and side panels milled from extruded aluminium profiles, giving Musical Fidelity the confidence to proudly proclaim that "the Nu-Vista 600.2 is basically immune against the effects of vibration from the environment" with the same claim regarding its immunity from electromagnetic interference as "the massive aluminium case acts as a Faraday cage."
Available at Musical Fidelity dealers from January 2025. Nu-Vista 600.2 - MSRP €8.990/ AU$16,000 (tbc).
