NAD ELECTRONICS CATERS FOR THE HUMBLE CD

The affordable CD player is an endangered species, so it comes as welcome news that NAD Electronics has announced its new C 538, a CD player engineered for musicality, simplicity and value.
Though downloads and streaming continue to grow in popularity, many people still have a vast collection of CDs. Many manufacturers have stopped making CD players, so it's nice to see a new one at a sensible price from a good brand.
With claimed Best-In-Class Sound, Useful Features and Ease of Operation, the C 538 has been designed as either a music lover’s first CD player or as a quality replacement.
NAD says the C 538 employs many of the same engineering techniques found in audiophile players but at a fraction of the price. The internal Wolfson DAC is a good one and having Coaxial and Digital optical outputs allows the use of external DACs or integration into AV systems.
With NAD's history, we expect the sound should be good too, but we will wait to pass judgement until a review sample arrives.
Greg Stidsen, NAD’s Director of Technology told StereoNET:
NAD continues to innovate and develop its CD players to get improved performance while keeping prices affordable. So, whether you are creating your first home system, or upgrading your current CD player, music lovers should choose one like the C 538 that delivers high-quality sound.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
