NEW DENON HEOS HS2 SOUNDBAR SUPPORTS AMAZON ALEXA AND HI-RES AUDIO

Denon has just announced its new HEOS HomeCinema HS2 wireless soundbar and subwoofer system - the latest addition to the HEOS wireless multi-room range.

The wireless HEOS HomeCinema HS2 soundbar system effortlessly adds power and depth to your favourite movies, music and games with stunning sound and a sleek new design.

The new system builds upon the success of the first iteration, with added 4K UHD capabilities, high-resolution audio, a new sleeker design and AirPlay/Bluetooth connectivity. Furthermore, hands-free music is available to stream via Amazon Alexa voice control.

The addition of Alexa will enable you to control the HS2 using vocal commands. All you will have to do is enable the HEOS Home Entertainment skill and then speak your commands via any Amazon Echo device. The Amazon Alexa feature becomes available in the UK in early Summer 2018 via a firmware update.

Designed from the ground up for true high-fidelity sound, the HEOS HomeCinema HS2 features bi-amplified mid-woofers and tweeters with advanced DSP processing. There is also a wireless subwoofer bundled in with the pack.

The soundbar comes equipped with dual 2-inch by 5-inch precision drivers that reproduce the upper bass and midrange audio. Finally, a pair of 20mm dome tweeters handles the high-frequency range.

An app-based installation assistant makes set up a breeze, while the HEOS HS2 system can be effortlessly and flexibly positioned within any room.

Denon told StereoNET:

Wonderful, high-resolution music playback comes from a range of files including FLAC, ALAC, AIFF and DSD. Meanwhile, the addition of AirPlay and Bluetooth makes listening to your favourite tracks easier than ever.

The HS2 sports a slimmer design than its predecessor and features premium quality metal feet and built-in power supply. This all adds up to a sophisticated aesthetic that will complement your TV and home cinema set-up.

The unit boasts HDMI input and output (with ARC TV audio return channel) as well as Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and DTS decoders.

Further advancements mean that the HS2 is now equipped to support 4K UHD video, and with the free HEOS App control and TV remote learning function, the set-up and operation promises to be straightforward.

Easily connect to an existing Wi-Fi network to bring Denon-quality audio to any — or all — rooms with the free HEOS app (available for both iOS, Android and Kindle Fire).

Denon HEOS HomeCinema HS2 Soundbar availability and local pricing is not yet confirmed.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
