OPPO Announces BDP-103 Darbee Edition

International Dynamics have announced the release of the BDP-103, Darbee Edition Universal Player, supporting Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, Super Audio CD (SACD), HDCD, and CD formats.

According to OPPO, the BDP-103 Darbee Edition player is the first in the world to integrate Darbee Visual Presence™ (DVP) technology -- a real-time image enhancement process -- to make images appear sharper and more detailed. OPPO products are widely known for their excellent picture quality, and BDP-103D upholds this tradition.

Enhanced images are delivered when the user selects one of three Darbee enhancement modes. The changes made are adjustable so the result can range from being very subtle to very noticeable

The Darbee Difference - Exceptional Picture Quality

Additional video processing features include 4K up-scaling, 2D-to-3D conversion, 1080p24Hz output, HDMI 1.4 with Deep Color, Source Direct output, and extensive picture control and enhancement options. Two HDMI outputs are provided, adding to the players’ versatility by allowing one output to be used for video and the other for audio, and even enabling the player to drive two displays at the same time.

The BDP-103D also features three USB ports and wired and wireless networking to support popular video and audio file formats including AVCHD, MKV video, high-resolution WAV and FLAC music, and digital photos.

Additionally, the player provides access to popular entertainment network services including Netflix®, VUDU®, Film Fresh®, Pandora® and YouTube®, with more to come (some of these services are currently available in USA only).

On the audio side, the player supports all of the high-resolution audio formats with bit-stream output and onboard decoding of Dolby® TrueHD and DTS-HD® Master Audio™. For SACD playback, users can choose between sending native DSD or converted PCM through the HDMI and analogue outputs depending on their preference and equipment compatibility. The BDP-103D provides a configurable 7.1ch analogue output that can be used in stereo, 5.1ch or 7.1ch mode.

"At the suggestion of our customers, OPPO has added two HDMI input ports, one on the front and one on the back, with the front HDMI input doubling as a Mobile High-definition Link (MHL®) input. This allows our customers to take further advantage of the excellent audio and video processing functions provided by the OPPO players. Users can connect external devices such as set-top boxes, network streaming devices, and even mobile phones to take advantage of the players’ video processing power.", International Dynamics told AV Life.

By connecting to Gracenote's global media database over the Internet, the BDP-103D can offer an enriched playback experience by displaying Cover Art, Title, Artist, Genre and other media information for CD, DVD, Blu-ray and a wide range of digital media files.

Accented with a heavy gauge brushed aluminium front panel, dimmable display and a sturdy chassis, the player fits well with any home theatre environment or sound system.

The BDP-103D is available from late October for $899 RRP at authorised OPPO dealers.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
