Pro-Ject Releases T1 Phono SB Turntable

Pro-Ject distributor for Australia and New Zealand, Interdyn, has announced the availability of its T1 Phono SB, the first release in the brand's new budget-orientated T-Line range.
The T1 will be the first turntable in a new budget-orientated T-Line range, which boasts premium materials, stylish aesthetics, easy set-up and use, and a rich, lively sound all at an accessible price.
T1 takes the company's engineering experience and expertise, alongside extensive market feedback, to produce a piece of hi-fi that can be accommodated into almost any environment thanks to its multiple finish options and three output versions. Furthermore, Pro-Ject has ensured that it is also as easy to use as it is to live with.
The T1 is based around a CNC-machined plinth that's carefully manufactured to ensure there are no hollow spaces inside, avoiding unwanted vibrations within the finished product. The Austrian company is also keen to point out that you won't find any plastic parts here either.
Mounted inside the plinth is a precision belt drive system, attached to a newly designed sub-platter, which itself is engineered to the most exacting tolerances for stable mounting into the stainless-steel axle/brass-bushing main bearing. It is worth noting that this is the same bearing as seen on the multi-award winning Essential III turntable. The sub-platter drives the new heavy, zero-resonance glass platter with absolute stability, ensuring an ideal playback surface for your vinyl.
The tonearm on the T1 is a new 8.6-inch model featuring a larger one-piece aluminium tube and an improved gimble bearing assembly with low-friction components for total accuracy in use. The tonearm comes with an Ortofon OM 5E cartridge with an elliptical diamond stylus already mounted. Furthermore, the tonearm is also pre-set for downforce and anti-skate settings, so there's no need for any complicated set-up; you can get playing straight out of the box!
The T1 Phono SB is finished with properly shielded, semi-symmetrical, low-capacitance phono cables, designed by Pro-Ject, fixed to the turntable underneath the tonearm and features a built-in speed control for automatic switching between 33 and 45 RPM. It comes complete with a built-in switchable Moving Magnet phono stage, so you can connect directly to a LINE level input or still make use of an external phono stage.
Pre-fitted with an Ortofon OM5e cartridge & finished in a lovely Piano Black, it comes supplied with all the necessary set-up accessories, a felt platter mat and a detachable dust cover in the box.
Available now, the Pro-Ject T1 Phono SB sells for AUD $549 RRP / NZD $629 RRP.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
