PRO-JECT X1 AND X2 TURNTABLES LAND IN UK

Pro-Ject has just announced the immediate availability of the new X1 and X2 turntables in the UK.
Announced back in April, the X1 and X2 follows on from the 1 Xpression Carbon and 2 Xperience SB turntables respectively and make use of Pro-Ject’s latest technologies and abilities to deliver exceptional performance for the price.
Pro-Ject X1
The X1 is the latest version of Pro-Ject’s original record player and brings high-end analogue technologies to a more affordable price-point.
Structurally the X1 is framed by its over-sized, heavyweight MDF structure. Inside the plinth, it houses a sophisticated DC/AC generator board which, combined with the convenient speed control board (for automatic switching between 33 and 45 RPM as well as additional 78 RPM support), delivers clean and stable power to the quiet-running motor.
Furthermore, the motor is decoupled from the main plinth using a new motor suspension system.
The X1’s motor drives a purpose-made, heavy, non-resonant Acryl platter via a sub-platter drive system and a premium-grade main bearing, for super-smooth spinning.
Pro-Ject states that the super-stiff, perfectly tempered Carbon/Alu sandwich construction tonearm, inspired by the company’s superior The Classic turntable makes the X1 head and shoulders better than its predecessors. The new 8.6-inch tonearm design is incredibly light and stiff, with improved resistance to external interference.
Finished as one piece, with no resonance-inducing headshell, the X1 tonearm can also be adjusted for accurate azimuth and VTA settings. The tonearm is supplied with a TPE-damped counterweight, further reducing cartridge/tonearm resonances.
The X1 is supplied with a brand new Ortofon-made Pro-Ject Pick-IT S2 MM cartridge (you can ask for it to come without a cart if you already have one). Also bundled in with the turntable is a pair of Connect-IT E RCA cables; a semi-balanced, low-capacitance cable with superior shielding that’s optimised for turntable use. You also get an acrylic dust cover.
The X1 is available in 3 finishes; a premium walnut wood veneer or a luxurious black or white eight-layer gloss paint.
Pro-Ject X2
The X2 is supported by its large, heavy, dense and stiff MDF structure, reducing unwanted resonances to almost undetectable levels.
Having added mass Pro-Ject is confident that the X2 is even quieter than previous versions. As with the X1, there’s a sophisticated DC/AC generator board including a speed control board (for automatic switching between 33 and 45 RPM as well as additional 78 RPM support). The motor is carefully balanced and suspended on a precision-tuned TPE belt; decoupling it from the main plinth.
Again, Pro-Ject makes use of the new, heavy, non-resonant Acryl platter which is driven via a sub-platter.
The X2 gets a 9-inch tonearm that follows a similar design to the 8.6-inch version. You get an Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge as standard (you can also opt-out should you wish) along with a pair of Connect-IT E RCA cables and an acrylic dust cover.
The X2 is available in four finishes; a premium walnut wood veneer, a luxurious black 8-layer high gloss paint, or black or white eight-layer hand-polished satin paint.
Price and availability
The Pro-Ject X1 is available in stores now with an SRP of £699.00 (£599.00 without cartridge).
The Pro-Ject X2 will be available in stores from late-July and has an SRP of £999.00 (£899.00 without cartridge).

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
