Room Tweaking Taken to Another Level

Wasn’t so long ago an Australian supplier arrived at my house with a magic suitcase full of tuning ‘buttons’. I watched bemused as he Blu-tacked half or dozen or so at strategic heights on the walls of my listening room.
I was left dumbfounded and gobsmacked after hearing the difference these tuning buttons had on the overall sound. It beggared disbelief and this is an audio flake who has tried some of Peter Belt’s wackiest tuning tips. Those were the days when following Belt’s (or reviewer Jimmy Huge’s) advice, placing one-inch square pieces of common paper under one foot of a Linn LP12 turntable and listening for the difference.
So I’m prepared to afford Synergistic Research's HFT’s 'tuning buttons' because I’ve heard what Peter Hansen’s innovation can do to the overall sound of your system.
Synergistic is the right name for this company. Because the yield in ‘listenability’ is organic rather than incremental. Yes they’re audio masters of all trades, and they will enhance room acoustics, and yes they will work wonders with speaker cabinets and so on and so forth. The interesting thing is no matter how they’re used, they seem to work and music becomes that much more enjoyable.
Ask Peter how they work and he’ll give you a detailed synopsis. Better yet pop down to Melbourne HiFi or one of National Audio Group’s and try the experiment for yourself.
John and Con, the duo who run Melbourne HiFi have already installed the HFTs in the stores listening rooms. Easy matter to hear the room with and without HFts.
A set of five HFTs will set you back a reasonable $355.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
