Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless Headphones Now Released

In what could be described as Sennheiser's worst-kept secret (thanks to a Canadian retailer loading the product on its website one week before release), we now have all the details on the long-awaited and highly anticipated MOMENTUM 4 Wireless headphones.
With a wide departure from the aesthetic of the previously released MOMENTUM Wireless 3 that we reviewed back in January 2020, Sennheiser says its new MOMENTUM 4 Wireless "raises the bar even higher, with best-in-class sound, advanced Adaptive Noise Cancellation and exceptional comfort". If you judge a brand based on its prior achievements, then we have no reason to doubt any of this, and we've been putting a pair through its paces over the last couple of weeks, so stay tuned for the full review.
MOMENTUM 4 Wireless employs its "audiophile-inspired acoustic system powered by a 42mm transducer", which the company says provides brilliant dynamics, clarity and musicality. Adaptive Noise Cancellation has also been updated to "next generation" for its release number four. It's understood the driver has been angled to ensure sound is channelled slightly from the front towards the user's ears, offering a more natural soundstage.
The advanced 2x2 digital beamforming microphone array and automatic wind noise suppression guarantee superior voice pick-up for hands-free communication while out and about.
Transparency Mode lets you hear outside sounds through the headphones with just a touch. The touchpad interface, combined with voice and sound prompts, makes controlling music, calls and voice assistants intuitive and easy to navigate. Set up is also simple thanks to Bluetooth device management that allows multiple devices to be connected at the same time.
Sennheiser's recently updated SmartControl app makes it easy to customise the sound using the Built-in EQ, sound modes and the new Sound Personalisation feature. This assesses the user's listening preferences and adjusts the listening experience according to their taste.
Battery life has also been extended to a whopping 60 hours, while fast-charging capability provides six hours of listening time in just ten minutes. Auto On/Off also powers up the headset when it's picked up and shuts down to save energy when not in use.
Comfort has been increased, too, promising all-day use without fatigue thanks to a new lightweight design and "richly padded headband and deep cushioned earpads". A low friction hinge mechanism easily adjusts to guarantee a great fit without placing excess pressure on the user's head. The fold-flat design is also comfortable when worn around the neck and can be easily slipped into a bag or backpack in the slim case when on the go.
Sennheiser's highly anticipated MOMENTUM 4 Wireless will be available for preorder from August 9, 2022, and released officially on August 23, 2022, priced at £299.99/ €349.90.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
