SIMAUDIO’S LUNAR QUALITY NEW NETWORK PLAYER

Look in any direction, and someone is showing a network player at this week's High End Show in Munich.

Simaudio’s Moon 390 model stands out from its rivals thanks to its mountain load of modes and function.

While it is a svelte, up-to-the-minute network player, this model is a master of all trades and is a true digital era crossover product.

Explore the Moon 390 a little closer, and it reveals its multi-talents: its sleek chassis houses a DAC, preamplifier, headphone amplifier and very desirably, a kosher phono stage.

Add advanced networking features to the package, and clearly, the Moon 390 can be all things to all music lovers.

The 390 says Simaudio, combines the feature set of the older 350P and 380D models. But it adds a bundle of new ones.

The 390 can be viewed as an all-in-one model sans a power amplifier.

The new model is the brand's first to benefit from MiND 2 streamer technology. The MiND streaming module allows the playback of all the most common file formats including DSD (up to DSD256) and is MQA certified. The 390 is Roon Ready and carries Bluetooth aptX connectivity.

MiND 2 boasts a USB host port that allows access to music on USB thumb drives. MiND will also stream any digital or analogue input of the 390 to other MiND zones on the same network.

The Moon 390 is all about high-res streaming via music services such as Tidal Masters, Qobuz Sublime+ and Deezer Hi-Fi.

The onboard DAC supports PCM (up to 32-bit/384kHz) and DSD (up to DSD256).

The Moon 390’s phono stage designed for moving coil and moving magnet cartridges can be configured via a menu that displays on its OLED screen.

Simaudio's Moon 390 will sell for $7,999 RRP.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
