Spotify Wrapped 2024: Taylor Swift Reigns Supreme While New Voices Make Waves
As November drew to a close, music and podcast fans everywhere anticipated one thing: Spotify Wrapped. The 2024 edition of the global streaming giant's annual retrospective offers users a deep dive into their listening habits while shining a light on the world's most-streamed artists, albums, songs, and podcasts.
This year's Wrapped offers insights into how musical tastes evolved over the year, complete with special messages from beloved artists and podcasters. Adding a personal touch, Spotify introduced an AI-driven podcast detailing individual listening habits, a feature that resonated with fans. In addition, audiobooks make their Wrapped debut, giving users an even broader view of the content shaping their year.
Taylor Swift: A Global Powerhouse
Taylor Swift continues her reign, claiming the title of most-streamed artist globally for the second consecutive year, with a staggering 26.6 billion streams. Say that again - 26 - Billion - Streams. Her anthology album, The Tortured Poets Department dominated charts worldwide, solidifying her influence in this era of pop culture. Swift's global success extends to Australia, where she's also the most-streamed artist, helped in no small part by this year's sell-out Aussie Era's Tour, underlining her universal appeal.
For local Australian pride, The Wiggles captured the top spot as the most-streamed local artists, followed by The Kid LAROI and AC/DC—a testament to the country's love for children's classics and rock legends.
AC/DC's inclusion highlights the enduring appeal of the seemingly timeless Australian rock act, whose anthems continue to captivate audiences of all ages decades after their debut.
Top Global and Australian Hits
On the global charts, Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso" emerged as the most-streamed song, alongside Billie Eilish's haunting "Birds of a Feather" and Benson Boone's ballad "Beautiful Things," which also topped the Australian charts. Local listeners leaned into heartfelt storytelling, with Noah Kahan's "Stick Season" and Shaboozey's "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" gaining significant traction.
For albums, Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department once again took the crown globally and in Australia, while Billie Eilish's Hit Me Hard and Soft and Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet rounded out the top three.
Joe Rogan's Record-Breaking Year
The Joe Rogan Experience continued its global dominance, taking the top podcast spot for the fifth consecutive year. Rogan's success peaked with an unprecedented moment in podcasting: his interview with President-elect Donald Trump, recorded in the lead-up to the 2024 U.S. election.
The episode amassed a staggering 38 million views within the first three days of release, underscoring Rogan's unparalleled influence not only in the podcasting space but the broader media landscape.
Other standout shows include Call Her Daddy and Huberman Lab, which ranked high both globally and in Australia. Podcasts have become a core part of Spotify's offering, with over half a billion people having listened to one since the platform's foray into the space in 2019!
Podcasts and Audiobooks: New Horizons
In a year of firsts, Spotify introduced audiobooks to its Wrapped experience. Globally, Sarah J. Maas's A Court of Thorns and Roses led the charts, while Australians made Prince Harry's Spare their top pick. Fantasy, memoirs, and self-help remained popular, reflecting diverse listener interests.
How do you get to Spotify Wrapped?
Spotify users can find their Wrapped 2024 by updating their app and navigating to the "Home" screen. From personalized playlists to global trends, this year's Wrapped captures the sounds that shaped 2024.
Whether it's Taylor Swift's record-breaking dominance, The Wiggles' enduring charm, AC/DC's timeless rock, or Joe Rogan's landmark interview with Donald Trump, Spotify Wrapped 2024 offers a snapshot of what the world listened to, loved, and shared. For many, it's a time to reflect, laugh, and, for some of us at StereoNET, cringe a little at the songs and podcasts that defined our year!
