Stack Audio LINK II Launched

Stack Audio announces its new LINK II USB Network bridge for audiophiles.
Stack Audio's LINK II (£725) builds upon the already popular first-gen LINK and benefits from improved software and hardware design resulting in better performance.
The Stack Audio LINK launched in early 2019. The neat and stylish package was introduced to its waiting audience as a high-performance, yet easy-to-use, USB audio reclocker and network bridge.
Furthermore, the diminutive LINK also boasted support for streaming music services such as Qobuz, Spotify and Tidal with an isolated and optimised USB output for use with a vast array of DACs.
The LINK II retains the attractively curved chassis design and finish of the first iteration; however, it's what's on the inside that matters. Firstly, the critical master clock circuit has been upgraded. Here the clock's noise levels have been reduced by an impressive 50%, resulting in more clarity to the output, we are told. Additionally, the operating system software has been streamlined. Stack Audio states that, with a smaller footprint, fewer computing resources are necessary to better the performance.
Also, there's good news for Roon fans as the software has been further optimised for this much-loved application. There is also Open Home protocol support so that the LINK II now appears as an OH zone. It is very much worth mentioning that DSD256 is now supported, a step up from DSD128 in the original LINK.
As well as UPnP, Roon and Airplay, the new LINK OS now supports Squeezelite and Liberspot (Spotify Connect). The operating system will soon add HQ player endpoint support, too.
The new LINK II is available now in Silver or Black for £725 (€825) and will ship with the latest software.
Existing LINK owners can upgrade to the new software platform should they wish to.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
