StormAudio’s Next Evolution in Immersive Audio Processing

France's StormAudio is a popular choice for AV processing at the pointy end of home cinema, and according to the company, it's Firmware 4.0 release ushers in the next evolution of immersive audio processing.
Available for download today, the latest firmware is compatible with the company's Immersive Sound Processor including MK1 versions. The update sees StormAudio the first to market with Dirac Live Bass Control, a tool it says is cutting edge for enhanced home cinema experiences.
Dirac's Live Bass Control module uses machine learning to analyse the behaviour of any speaker type used, then optimises the system's bass response for all speakers and subwoofers in the room. “The advanced algorithm allows for smoother bass reproduction in the crossover area and even flexibility in the subwoofer placement, overcoming constraints in a room that might compromise the bass reproduction.”
Other key features include a redesigned Speaker Configurator said to offer “more flexible configuration possibilities and integration of Roon music management.”
Firmware 4.0 can now also supports Dolby Atmos layouts of up to 13.1.10 and additional screen centre, rear surround, front and rear height channels.
StormAudio says Auro Technologies has made improvements to its Auro-3D codec, allowing it analyse the speaker layout installed and make use of the rear channels in the layout when playing back native Auro-3D 9.1/11.1 content. Also updated is the Auro-Matic upmixing algorithm, said to offer “more refined dialogue management on a 2 channel stream for improved handling of legacy sources.”
DTS:X Pro capability will also be added in the next upgrade of the Firmware 4.0, expected to be released in the next few months.
StormAudio's Firmware 4.0 was designed to complement StormAudio's new MK2 processor/preamp range including the 16, 24 or 32-channel analogue versions as well as a 32-channel digital AES version.
