T+A MP 3000 HV MKII Multi-Source Player Announced

T+A has announced its second-generation MP 3000 HV Media Player.

The T+A MP 3000 HV MK II is the latest iteration of the German manufacturer's multi-source player system.

Theory and Application, or T+A to its friends, proudly announces that the MP 3000 HV MKII Ethernet/WiFi streaming module brings in support for Tidal, Qobuz and Deezer as well as making the player Roon Ready. The company has also made the MP 3000 HV more iOS-friendly.

CD Spinner

As well as virtual music, you get a CD player complete with a custom mechanism. The CD drive is mechanically isolated in two stages: firstly, there's a substantial, encapsulated housing that acts as a mass damper. Secondly, the drive unit is decoupled from the player housing itself by a resonance-optimised 3-point bearing, according to the Herford-based Hi-Fi makers. It also appears that T+A has dropped the player's SACD ability for this model.

Additionally, the MP 3000 HV MKII isn't going anywhere fast. It might only measure 17 x 46 x 46 cm but, due it being constructed from 6cm-thick aluminium, the system's fighting weight is a hefty 26kg.

This may be a compact digital system, but T+A's renowned attention to detail can be further spotted around the rear of the unit as the eagle-eyed among you will have noticed the pair of mains connections - one for the digital pathway and one for the analogue.

Ins and Outs

Outputs include single-ended RCA and balanced XLR for connection to an amplifier plus a single coaxial digital feed for an outboard DAC, should that be your preference. However, the MP 3000 MKII sports a double-differential quartet of TI PCM 1795 32 Bit DAC chips running on each channel taking care of its raft of digital inputs. The well-accommodated input list includes a pair of USB ports (one for reading from a storage drive, the other supports async 192 kSps (PCM)), coaxial, AES/EBU, 2 x BNC, 2 x optical TOSLINK, and aptX Bluetooth. There is also DAB/DAB+ radio and even an FM tuner for those of you still tuning in.

Upgrade

Even better news is that if you already own an MP 3000 HV, you can upgrade it to the latest MKII specs.

The hardware upgrade includes the conversion to the new T + A Streaming Client including Airable Internet Radio, Tidal, Qobuz and Deezer. The upgrade also includes an FM / DAB + tuner and a Bluetooth receiver.

Price and availability

The MP 3000 HV MKII is available in either Silver 47 or Titanium 64 and we're awaiting confirmed UK pricing.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
