T+A Reveals Solitaire P-SE Headphones

Following the impressive Solitaire P headphones, T+A elektroakustik has announced a (slightly) more affordable follow-up.
T+A elektroakustik's Solitaire P-SE follows the Applause Award-winning Solitaire P and shares many of its flagship trail-blazing predecessor's design cues.
However, to shave £2,000 off the Solitaire P's asking price T+A have replaced aluminium parts with those of a high-quality synthetic compound to reduce production costs and overall weight on the new planar-magnetostatic headphones.
Furthermore, the dedicated ear-cushions were developed to suit the composite materials; allowing for an incredible positional accuracy of each instrument without compromising the expansive soundstage.
Additionally, the Solitaire P-SE features a new elliptic 110x80 mm transducer unit, the TPM 2500, with new membranes and filters, all of which are new developments. The special membrane located over the magnet array is damped with copper conductor tracks, while the Solitaire P’s Draft Control System has been revised in order to meet the particular requirements of the headphones’ durable plastic construction. Naturally, the P-SE remains hand made in Herford, Germany.
The result is a quoted frequency response of 8 Hz - 45 kHz and a 101 dB @ 1 kHz, 1V sensitivity. Impedance is rated at 45 Ohms and distortion < 0,015 % @ 100 dB. The Solitaire P-SE comes bundled with two plugs: A 6.3 mm standard jack as well as the choice of a balanced 4.4 mm Pentaconn or XLR plug.
Development Director, Lothar Wiemann, told StereoNET:
[The Solitaire P-SE represents] a completely new and successful product within the Solitaire P series, constituting much more than just a little brother to the Solitaire P.
Managing Director, Siegfried Amft, proudly states:
Although the fundamental technology was already in existence, our whole team managed in just six months to produce yet another outstanding product which carries our philosophy in terms of sound and handling into a new price bracket.
The new Solitaire P-SE also reflects another innovation in terms of the company's headphone product nomenclature. From now, there will be a clear definition to which series the headphones belong, as well as its status within that range. We must remember, the P-SE is only the company's second set of headphones. "The SE suffix will be used to define the entry-level model in each series," explains Global Marketing Director Conradin Amft.
The T+A elektroakustik Solitaire P-SE will be available from January 25th 2021 and have an RRP of £3,000.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
