The New York Audio Show, and North American Hi-Fi “Show Business”

There's a saying that show business is hard business. After a few turbulent years following the pandemic, show organisers in the North American hi-fi show market would likely agree.
One example is the long-standing New York Audio Show, organised by Chester Group. StereoNET reached out to Show Organiser Roy Bird to confirm plans for the show, which was initially scheduled for the end of May this year.
Bird, in an exclusive conversation with StereoNET, confirmed:
There is simply no way that this show can be continuously hosted in NYC, due to extremely high venue costs, unworkable venue guarantees, demanding unions, and yes high attendance costs for both exhibitors and visitors.
Chester Group has taken the bold step to remodel the show. It will now be a more intimate affair, limited to 30 market-leading brands. Bird says the venue will be outside Manhattan and offer ample free parking, a great ambience, and improved accessibility. The show will primarily occur in meeting rooms, ensuring a more focused and productive experience.
Bird continues:
We have several venues shortlisted at present, hence why we've been quiet, and we will announce our choice in the next 28 days, together with a new date which will be shared with all the outstanding Exhibitor enquiries we have had for this year's show. We intend to make this event one in which Exhibitors have a direct engagement, as we intend to make it more of an alliance. It will be a more organized, sophisticated and visitor focused experience, definitely not your average 'HiFi' show.
The North American market is already very well serviced with shows, including SouthWest Audio Fest Dallas (March 15 - 17), Montreal Audiofest (March 22 - 24), the highly esteemed AXPONA show (April 12 - 14), Lonestar Audiofest Dallas (June 7 - 10), T.H.E Show SoCal (June 7 - 9), California Audio Show (July 19 - 21), Audio Advice Live North Carolina (August 2 - 4), CEDIA Colorado (September 5 - 7), Pacific Audio Fest Washington (September 6 - 8), CANJAM SoCal (September 28 - 29), CANJAM Dallas (November 2 - 3), and rounding out the year, Capital Audiofest Washington (November 8 - 10).
Bird adds, "By changing things, the reputation of the New York Audio show will be further enhanced, as it continues uniquely to attract 'show buyers' and to achieve that, we must constantly be aware of the need to move with the times."
We look forward to the announcement of the Chester Group New York Audio Show's new timing and location.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
