V-MODA RELEASES CROSSFADE 2 WIRELESS CODEX EDITION HEADPHONES

We have heard for ourselves how good wireless speakers are getting. Now, V-Moda tells us that they have closed the gap between wired and wireless headphones.
The V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition is pitched as a “hybrid Bluetooth and pure analogue wired headphone.” V-Moda assures us that the new headphones have virtually identical sound in either mode.
When used in wired configuration, the headphones are capable of certified Hi-Res Audio. However, used wirelessly is how they earned their name.
The Codex Edition has the ability to 'automagically' switch to the best audio codec for the job. They feature Qualcomm aptX for CD sound quality over Bluetooth on higher-end Android and MacOS sources.
Furthermore, it also offers two additional codec options: The Advanced Audio Codec (AAC) for best sound performance on iOS and many other devices along with the Sub-Band Codec (SBC) for universal compatibility when aptX and AAC are not supported.
Unlike other Bluetooth headphones that still process the sound when in wireless mode, the Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition switches off all the electronic magic to achieve zero latency, essential for gaming and professional use.
Val Kolton, CEO of V-Moda, told StereoNET:
Bluetooth audio quality is defined by the algorithm codec and bitrate vs. the version. Listeners no longer need to sacrifice audio quality for the convenience that Bluetooth capabilities provide.
Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition gives modern audiophiles the best of both wireless and wired worlds. Our new hybrid Codex Edition is shrinking the gap between the sound quality of wireless and wired playback for a sound signature that is meticulously sculpted for audiophiles, gamers and professional musicians, alike.
The headphones are powered by dual-diaphragm 50mm drivers, using a hi-resolution CCAW Japanese coil. With an extended frequency range from 5Hz to 40kHz, you can connect to a lossless music service or 24bit/96kHz playback sources to “experience an increased dynamic range, with more precise and sparkling high-frequency definition”.
Large memory foam cushioned earpads ensures comfort combined with the SteelFlex headband. The CliqFold hinge enables the headphones to fold and be packed away in the neat Exoskeleton travel case.
There's also a built-in hidden microphone for phone calls and voice recognition. Additionally, they come bundled with an ARAMID fibre-reinforced 1-Button Speakeasy cable for wired calls.
The V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition is made from a combination of steel and vegan leather.
The rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides 14+ hours of music, entertainment and calls. Using FastCharge, 30 minutes of charging provides 4 hours of playback. A full charge can be achieved in around 150 minutes. Naturally, if you’re caught short in the charging department, just use the supplied cable.
V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition is available now in Rose Gold, launching exclusively in-store at Best Buy Magnolia and at BestBuy.com, including complimentary personalisation for £330 (€350).
It is also available now in Matte Black at the V-Moda website along with Microsoft Stores.
The Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition in all three colours, Matte Black, Matte White and Rose Gold, will be available for the same price on V-MODA.com, Amazon.com and authorised retailers worldwide outside the US over the next 1-2 months.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
