Will Klipsch Hardware and Dirac Optimisation Prove a Killer Combo?

With a heritage that dates back to 1946, US-based loudspeaker firm Klipsch has a reputation for high-quality products. More recently, it has branched into headphones and earphones, with even a True Wireless model in its range.
Hailing from Sweden, the fifteen-year-old firm Dirac Research firm is best known for audio processing algorithms. Its room optimisation technology is found embedded in higher-end home theatre equipment, including NAD, Arcam and Focal.
The two companies have now announced a coming together for a collaboration which will see new Klipsch earphones incorporating Dirac technology to, as they say, "unleash the full potential of the earphones."
Lars Isaksson, Business Director at Dirac, said:
Collaboration with Klipsch – a legendary acoustics pioneer – further establishes our position as an innovator in the headphone market and reasserts our commitment to working closely with premium brands to leverage the latest in digital audio to elevate hardware performance to new levels.
On the collaboration, Dirac says that its sound optimisation solution "corrects the impulse and frequency response of any headphone to upgrade its musical staging, clarity, voice intelligibility, and bass fidelity. The solution reveals even the most subtle beats, tones and sounds that can be lost during the playback process to produce a listening experience more true to the artists' intent."
Klipsch is also very positive about the collaboration, noting that:
By working with Dirac, we combine our decades of headphone expertise with their digital audio expertise to introduce to our customers a new level of listening experience across Klipsch headphones. Dirac shares our commitment to excellence and innovation, and we look forward to continued collaboration.
We're going to have to wait a little while before we see the results of the collaboration. The new earphones are planned for launch in the Northern Hemisphere fall, so some time from late September. It seems that they will be true wireless models.
Klipsch's last word on them for the moment:
The upcoming Klipsch earphones are designed for True Comfort™, True Performance™, and True Wireless™, and deliver audiophile-grade sound, seamless connectivity and advanced functionality for people on the go.
We do look forward to tasting the fruits of the new relationship between Klipsch and Dirac Research later this year.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
