Wilson Audio Alida Wall Mount Speakers

One of the most famous names in Hi-Fi, Wilson Audio, continues to evolve as a company delivering new products to suit the next generation of modern living and changing lifestyles.
Alida, pronounced "ah-LEE-da", is of latin origin and by definition means "small winged one". Fitting, for the latest product to come from Wilson's labs in the form of a wall-mounted speaker.
Founder Dave Wilson has a history of designing 'Special Application' products, with the original WATT being the result of needing a small location monitor for a series of classical recording he was doing back in 1983. Would would have guessed WATT would go on to have such a successful future, paired with dedicated woofer enclosures in the form of WATT/Puppy and more recently Sasha W/P?
According to Wilson Audio, Alida "was designed to offer the timbrel neutrality, dynamic response, soundstage depth, and transparency of floor-standing loudspeakers, but to do so in the extremely adverse conditions of wall mounts applications".
Alida is reported to have low end frequency response reaching 40Hz and while actual power handling specifications are not stated, Wilson Audio says Alida has "strong power handling capacity".
Wilson Audio have also re-eingeered their wall mounting system, now providing up to 30 degrees of rotation. Alida is mounted to its bracket via an individually machined, aircraft grade aluminium mechanism, that apparently reduces wall-born interactions and resonance.
Known for their brilliance in enclosure design, Wilson have employed technology developed for the Alexandria XLF and Sasha W/P. Engineers were able to reduce the resonant signature of the Alida to "vanishing levels". Through a rear-wave diffuser, time-domain distortion inside the cabinet is reduced.
Alida utilises a 6" doped paper pulp woofer, combined with a 1" soped silk fabric dome tweeter.
In a market where living spaces are often utilised for more than one purpose and space is at a premium, the Alida speakers would lend themselves well to living and entertaining areas.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
