AURALiC Vega S1 & Aries S1 Announced

AURALiC introduces its new S1 streamers and updated Altair G2.2 and V10 software.
AURALiC has unveiled its S1 series audio streamers, Tesla G3 streaming platform-based Altair G2.2, and version 10.0 software.
The S1 is AURALiC's new entry-level audio streamer. Powered by AURALiC's Tesla G3 streaming platform, it inherits premium audio technologies from the acclaimed G2.2 reference products, including Direct Memory Access (DMA), Direct Data Recording (DDR), Fusion DAC, Galvanic Isolation, and more.
Available in two variations, the Aries S1 streaming processor (reviewed here) features USB and digital outputs, while the Vega S1 streaming DAC offers XLR and RCA analogue outputs. Both support streaming via Ethernet through AURALiC's Lightning DS, AirPlay 2, TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, Internet Radio, and a range of digital input channels.
Additionally, the S1 is queued to be Roon Ready once the certification has been rubber-stamped. Finally, the S1 can be further uprated via the optional S1 Purer-Power External Power Supply Unit.
Powered by the company's Tesla G3 streaming platform, the S1 series records incoming audio data into the Tesla G3's system memory and transmits it directly to the low-level audio hardware. Thanks to the dual 60fs Femto Clocks and Galvanic Isolation, the S1 series promises unprecedented noise reduction. We're told that clock jitter and signal distortion are "minimised to an extraordinary degree", resulting in "a remarkably smooth and natural sound character."
Along with the various streaming options offered by the brand's proprietary Lightning DS software, the S1 also has several digital input channels, including USB audio, Coaxial, and Toslink. Additionally, it can play music stored on a NAS drive, USB drive, or CD drive.
Meanwhile, the Vega S1 adds AURALiC's proprietary Fusion DAC, integrating the finest elements of discrete ladder and Delta-Sigma DAC designs, so says the manufacturer. In addition to this advanced DAC technology, the Vega S1 incorporates 'Analog Volume Control' and 'Analog Preamplifier' features derived from the Applause Award-winning Vega G2.2.
The Vega S1 also boasts all-new PureDAC mode and Tone Mode adjustment. PureDAC mode empowers the Vega S1 to disable all streaming and network-related functions, dedicating all resources to digital signal processing and conversion tasks. In this mode, says AURALiC, it utilises Direct Data Recording technology to store music signals from any digital or USB input in the past hour to Tesla G3's system memory, enabling you to replay music from any point at any time.
Furthermore, the Tone Mode adjustment refines the output sound character of the DAC by "incorporating harmonic elements into the music signal based on a model rooted in auditory psychology."
AURALiC ALTAIR G2.2
The Altair name has always epitomised a wealth of features and functionality. The latest G2.2 version continues the tradition of a fully featured digital and analogue source with even more enhancements.
Powered by the Tesla G3 streaming platform, the Altair G2.2 introduces several new updates, including the adoption of Direct Data Recording (DDR), Fusion DAC, and Galvanic Isolation, all of which aim to elevate audio quality to new heights. In addition to these advancements, the Altair G2.2 now boasts an HDMI eARC input, further enriching its impressive array of input channels.
LIGHTNING OS V10
AURALiC's celebrated Lightning Streaming platform commemorates its 10th anniversary with the much-anticipated release of version 10.0 firmware.
This milestone update introduces new features, such as PureDAC mode and Tone Mode, to enhance sound quality. Lightning OS V10 will be available through Over-The-Air updates for compatible products by the end of April, marking a significant leap forward in audio performance and functionality for AURALiC users worldwide.
AURALiC will showcase these new offerings at the 2024 High End Munich audio show, which will be held from May 9th to 12th in Atrium 4.0G Room E211.
The Aries S1 and Vega S1 are now available for £/€1,999. The optional S1 Purer-Power External Power Supply Unit costs £/€999. Finally, the suggested retail price for the Altair G2.2 is £5,299/ €5,999.

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
