KEF's KC62 Uni-Core Force-Cancelling subwoofer not only sports a compact and sleek design, but we're also told that it delivers unprecedented depth and breath-taking accuracy in equal measure.

The patent-pending Uni-Core design delivers exceptional performance and the benefits of force cancellation through a single motor system with concentrically arranged voice coils. This formation equals or exceeds the driver excursion of a much larger subwoofer while reducing the cabinet size by over a third, so boasts KEF.

That 246x256x248 mm (HxWxD) curved cabinet is crafted from extruded aluminium and is offered in Carbon Black, and Mineral White finishes.

Uni-Core is undoubtedly some innovative tech, but the KC62 has two other KEF touches that enable this compact sub to perform how it does.

Firstly, the P-Flex Surround is a brand-new patent-pending driver surround. Apparently, it resists the acoustic pressure inside the cabinet without limiting sensitivity or adding excessive mass in the same way traditional surround designs do. This is achieved through a unique pleated design that has also gained it the nickname of Origami Surround.

Another patent-pending new arrival is dubbed Smart Distortion Control Technology - guess what this does. Well, it's a sensorless, motional feedback system that helps correct even the slightest abnormalities that may occur, according to KEF.

It does this by measuring the current in the voice coil and detecting and correcting any non-linear distortions, which delivers more accurate, less coloured bass performance. The new approach reduces the interaction between signal, amplifier and driver, which dramatically decreases the potential for distortion.

Further fine-tuning of the KC62's performance comes by way of a bespoke selection of in-house designed DSP (Digital Signal Processing) algorithms in the form of KEF's Music Integrity Engine. Algorithms, including iBX (Intelligent Bass Extension) and SmartLimiter, which continually analyses the signal to prevent clipping, work together to ensure the perfect relationship between all components.

Finally, the KC62's twin drivers are powered by 1,000W RMS (2 x 500W) of specially designed Class D amplification. The result is a claimed 11Hz–200Hz frequency response (±3dB) and 105dB max output.

The KC62 boasts a collection of connection options that allow it to work with almost any audio system. The line output with HPF allows for exceptional fine-tuned integration, while KEF SmartConnect eliminates any connection issues. The KC62 is also compatible with the KW1 adaptor kit for wireless compatibility. There are also five pre-set Room Placement Equalisation modes to ensure the KC62 performs how it should, no matter you put it - whether in free space, next to the wall, in a corner, nestled within a cabinet or using the dedicated apartment mode.

The KEF KC62 is available from February in Carbon Black and Mineral White for an SRP of £1,400 each.
