Kerr Acoustic Comes Home

Kerr Acoustic's professional monitors are now available to the home audio market.

Kerr Acoustic speakers are already renowned in pro audio circles. Most recently, rapper J Hus's UK number 1 album, Big Conspiracy, was mixed and mastered on Kerr Acoustic speakers. Now, thanks to a UK distribution agreement with Sound Fowndations, founder Jes Kerr is opening the doors to audiophiles.

Kerr Acoustic K100

Kerr Acoustic loudspeakers are designed and crafted by a small team, and the company is very much a family business. The speakers feature mid-range and bass drivers from the Dorset–based Volt buddied with true ribbon tweeters. Additionally, the units benefit from Kerr Acoustic's transmission line bass loading. The result of this unique development is a bass frequency response that reaches way down to 16Hz in the K100 (above). Even the K300 standmounts manage 33Hz.

Jes Kerr told StereoNET:

I guess it was a natural move for me to start with the pro market. Since I was already working in that field as a session musician and a music producer. During that time I found myself collecting, restoring and modifying a vast number of different loudspeaker designs in pursuit of the kind of resolution I wanted to achieve in my recordings, which is what ultimately led me to create my own designs –and then share them with others.

The Kerr Acoustic range currently includes three models, with a fourth planned for later this year. The K100 3-way floorstander was designed to set new standards in professional monitoring and critical listening; however, it offers tremendous high and mid-frequency resolution coupled with outstanding bass power, control and detail as a domestic full-range speaker, according to Kerr.

The K300 2-way standmount was conceived for near-field monitoring in the studio but will also prove its worth as a medium-sized standmount speaker that promises to deliver "a startling degree of resolution coupled with a rich, deep bass that belies its diminutive dimensions". We heard these at UK Hi-Fi Show Live last year and were suitably impressed.

Finally, if you are looking for all the benefits that the K300 offers but as a floorstander, the 2-way K320 has been developed to do precisely that. Furthermore, we are told that has been specially created for the home audiophile.

Chris Green of Sound Fowndations adds:

I'm delighted that Jes has decided to bring his incredible-sounding speakers to the home audiophile market. I've been listening to them for a while and am seriously impressed. As you might expect from something designed for pro studio use, the bass is stellar, and the upper end is packed with revealing detail. What might surprise you, however, is how reasonably priced they are.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge.
