AirTry Opens Up Wireless Audio

There has long been a clear division between two forms of wireless audio. There has been WiFi for inside the home, near your wireless networking infrastructure, and Bluetooth for when you're out and about. Bluetooth is far better than it used to be, but for the highest audio quality WiFi is best.
A new South Korean product, AirTry breaks down that division, letting you have high quality wireless audio independently of available WiFi networks.
Your wireless phone, tablet or music player can connect to the AirTry via a regular WiFi network, or by directly accessing it as though it were a WiFi network. The latter is ideal for those times when you're away from home. The wireless range is up to thirty metres.
Once connected, it can be selected from the 'AirPlay' menu of Apple iOS devices, or from the 'Share' menu of Android phones and tablets. No special app is required. You just use the standard music player on your device.
The compact device acts as a receiver, ready to be plugged into an audio system or a powered speaker. It is powered by a standard 5 volt USB charger. Output is by means of a 3.5mm stereo connection.
Australian distributor of AirTry, Decibel Hi Fi, says that it is capable of supporting up to 255 connections. Audio quality is assured by the use of a Wolfson digital to analogue converter.
The AirTry can be purchased online from Decibel Hi Fi for $79.20. It will also be showing at the Australian Audio & AV Show, running from 17 to 19 October 2014 at the InterContinental Melbourne Rialto Hotel.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
