An Exclusive Live Jazz Event at Melbourne’s Nirvana Sound

Live, but not exactly as you know it. Melbourne's home of ultra-high-end audio, Nirvana Sound, is live streaming an event directly from the legendary Van Gelder Studios in New Jersey, and you're invited.

In November last year, friends of Nirvana Sound were lucky enough to experience a spectacular night of music via live stream from the same studio - the famed home of Rudy Van Gelder and those wonderful Blue Note Jazz recordings from the '50s and '60s, which we still love today. Following the massive success of that night, more events were promised, and here we are.

The Jazz session is locked in for May 16th, a Sunday for us here in Australia. Nirvana Sound would like to invite just 12 lucky guests to their East Bentleigh, Melbourne showroom for a relaxed morning of great coffee, select teas, refreshments and a comfortable "lights out" session. You'll be magically transported exactly 16,618 km in the blink of an eye to the beautiful studio acoustic space of Van Gelder Studios to hear Joey DeFrancesco (Hammond Organ), Billy Hart on Drums and Peter Bernstein on Guitar with special guest Houston Person on Sax.

Seating is strictly limited to 12 people, and the reference playback system will comprise Ypsilon amplification, Stage III cabling and the incredible Wilson Benesch Eminence loudspeakers. We've heard this system, and it needs to be heard to be believed.

Don't turn your nose up at the live stream either! The streaming technology is unlike anything you've heard on the commercial streaming systems. Phil Coady is a Microsoft Alumni. Together with Van Gelder, they've developed a capture and streaming solution that delivers a direct to disc, master tape-like sound with incredible live dynamics and spatial cues. Musically these guys get a groove on… it promises to be an audiophile Nirvana!

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
