Audio-technica Brings Back Cult Classic ‘Sound Burger’ Turntable
Forty years after its original debut, Audio-technica's fan-favourite "Sound Burger' retro portable turntable will again be available, in limited numbers.
The Japanese company is currently celebrating its 60th anniversary with a flurry of product releases. The AT-SB2022 stays true to its original aesthetic but celebrates modern technology updates such as Bluetooth connectivity and USB charging.
The limited-edition Sound Burger is an affordable entry-level machine in terms of features and price. For those new to vinyl records, it is a doorway to a deeper knowledge of analog music. Thanks to its Bluetooth connection and compact, lightweight design, the AT-SB2022 would be the perfect partner for parties, picnics, or just because it's retro - and sure to be snapped up by collectors. Connect it to Bluetooth headphones or speakers and enjoy listening to vinyl records wirelessly for up to 12 hours.
The belt-drive system can play both 33-1/3 and 45 RPM records. For portability and stability, the tonearm employs a dynamic balance system in which stylus pressure is applied via a spring, while the drive comes from a high-precision DC motor to maintain stable rotation.
Kazuo Matsushita, President of Audio-Technica Corporation, told StereNET:
It is an honour to provide a quality audio experience to millions of people throughout the world. What begins as a simple vibration – a subtle movement – results in an emotional connection, whether that be when listening deeply to an album or sharing your voice with the world.
The Audio-technica Sound Burger is presented in beautifully designed Echizen washi paper, produced using a traditional Japanese technique. Commemorating the company's 60th anniversary, each product is engraved with a serial number, indicating the limited availability and individuality of each AT-SB2022.
Accessories include a 45 RPM adapter, RCA audio cable (3.5 mm male to dual RCA male), and a USB cable for charging (USB Type-A / USB Type-C). The stylus on the Sound Burger can be replaced with the ATN3600L (sold separately).
The Audio-technica AT-SB2022 Portable Turntable will be available soon via select dealers and will sell for £199.99/ €229 RRP.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
