CAMBRIDGE AUDIO AX SERIES LAUNCHED
Cambridge Audio has just unveiled the AX series comprising of a pair of CD players, a couple of integrated amps and two stereo receivers.
The new AX models take design cues and borrow tech from Cambridge Audio’s high-end CX and Edge two-channel models but are much kinder to your pocket and will slip in between the brand’s Topaz and CX offerings.
Starting with the AXC25 CD player (£229) and AXC35 CD (£299), both of which will play nicely with CD-R, CD-RW and CD-ROM discs with MP3 and WMA files on them. The AXC25 sports a single analogue phono output whereas the AXC35 adds the option of a coaxial digital audio output attached to its internal DAC.
The AXA25 (£229) and AXA35 (£299) integrated amps deliver power outputs of 25 watts and 35 watts, respectively. Both are armed with four RCA inputs, a 3.5mm front-panel input, an RCA recording output, and a USB port that can accommodate an external Bluetooth receiver for those wishing to add wireless streaming. The £70 premium for the 35 gifts you a phono stage input and 6.3mm headphone output, comes boxed with a remote control, and sports a display screen.
The AXR85 stereo receiver (£349) has 85W on tap and can drive two stereo speaker zones. Connectivity comprises a trio of analogue inputs, a phono stage input, recording and subwoofer outputs and a 3.5mm auxiliary input. Additionally, ’there’s a 6.3mm headphone output up front too. An FM/AM tuner and built-in Bluetooth receiver for smart device streaming rounds things off here.
Finally, at the top of the AX range is the AXR100 stereo receiver (£449). This improves on the 85 with two optical and one coaxial input and ramps up power output to 100W.
The AXC and AXA ranges will be available from Cambridge Audio and Amazon from mid-June 2019. The AXR range will be available from July 2019.
