Cambridge Audio Expands Range

UK high fidelity audio firm Cambridge Audio has updated its award-winning Go wireless speaker and added two new models. The original Go received Best Wireless/Portable speaker awards for 2013 from two publications. Now this highly portable speaker has been enhanced with the improved aptX codec for the transmission of high quality audio over Bluetooth, and NFC (Near Field Communication) for easy pairing with phones.
The benefits of both aptX and NFC are realised only with compatible equipment, such as recent model Android phones and tablets.
The Go features two tweeters, two midrange drivers and an Auxiliary Bass Radiator to provide high quality full range sound from a small package. It's only 237mm wide, 123mm tall and 60mm deep. Its battery lasts for up to eighteen hours of operation and, unusually, can provide power to charge other USB devices, such as a phone.
Up to eight devices can be paired with the Go at once. Music players without Bluetooth are supported by the 3.5mm analogue input.
The new Go Radio is the same as the Go, but includes an FM tuner capable of remembering three preset stations, with a nifty LED display visible through the speaker grille.
The larger Bluetone 100 speaker brings some of these design features into the home. Still compact at 354mm wide, 182mm tall and 118mm deep, it includes a 100 watt Class-D amplifier and a pair of 100mm Balanced Mode Radiator speaker drivers for 'real hi-fi' sound, says Cambridge Audio. In addition to the advanced Bluetooth with aptX, there are 3.5mm and stereo RCA analogue inputs. A control is provided to optimise the bass level for the unit's location.
The new Go is expected to be available in late September 2014 for $229, while the Go Radio is scheduled for late November (price TBA), along with the Bluetone 100 ($399). The Go units will be available in satin white or black, while the Bluetone is satin black only.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
