Cyrus first teased the industry with its BluOS-powered music streamers more than 18 months ago, and now they are official as the Cyrus Stream-XR and Cyrus Classic STREAM.

Chris Hutcheson, Cyrus's Head of Marketing, told StereoNET:

This strategic partnership with BluOS is very important for Cyrus. It allows us to concentrate on what we do best, which is engineering amazing-sounding electronics, with the addition of the strongest streaming platform currently in the market.

The Stream-XR joins the likes of the Applause Award-winning i9-XR integrated amplifier and CDi-XR CD player in the company's premium XR range of hi-fi separates.

Meanwhile, the Classic STREAM slips into the revived Cyrus Classic range, from which the Classic AMP has already impressed us.

Naturally, both new components sport the Cyrus half-width chassis design. The most significant difference between the streamers is that the Stream-XR's fascia is blessed with a display and a row of control/playback buttons. In contrast, the Classic STREAM rocks a more minimal aesthetic, eschewing a screen and controls in favour of a solitary power button.

Function-wise, the streamers share many features, including AirPlay 2, MQA decoding, and Roon Ready certification, along with Wi-Fi and wired ethernet connections.

Streaming smarts come by way of the much-loved BluOS platform and Control app, which will soon be getting an update to version 4.0. Here, BluOS hands the Stream-XR and Classic STREAM playback skills and access to popular music streaming services such as Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer, Spotify and more. Additionally, both models can decode lossless playback of high-resolution audio files up to 24-bit/192kHz PCM.

The main difference between Stream-XR and Classic STREAM is under the hood. The Stream-XR is kitted out with a second-generation Cyrus QXR DAC, which includes a "high-speed analogue buffer stage" and aims to deliver the analogue signal as accurately and precisely as possible. This DAC design is based on the ESS ES9038Q2M chipset, tuned by Cyrus's engineering team to achieve the "highest possible performance".

Meanwhile, the Classic STREAM uses the first generation of the QXR DAC, as employed by its Classic stablemates, the Classic AMP and Classic PRE preamp.

Regarding physical connections, the Stream-XR (above) has a pair of analogue line-level outputs, one optical and coaxial digital input apiece, and single optical and coaxial outputs. The Classic STREAM (below) has only single optical and coax outputs and one pair of line-level outputs.

However, both models can be upgraded by adding an optional Cyrus external power supply.

The Cyrus Classic STREAM costs £1,995, and the Cyrus Stream-XR is priced at £2,495.
