Focal Introduces Utopia Cinema Range for High-End Home Theaters

Focal has announced its Utopia Cinema range, a new offering designed for private home cinemas up to 2153 sq ft (200m²) in size.

The lineup includes the Cinema LCR, a three-way loudspeaker, and the Cinema SUB, a subwoofer. According to Focal, these products have been developed focusing on precision engineering and high performance, providing a modular solution for premium home cinema integration.

Focal states that the Utopia Cinema range incorporates technology from its professional division, drawing on elements from the Utopia Main studio monitors introduced earlier this year. The company claims these technologies contribute to an immersive and accurate listening experience, with attention given to sound detail and low-frequency impact.

The Cinema LCR loudspeaker is designed to offer high SPL output while maintaining accuracy. It includes crossover adjustments, such as a 0–30° selector, to optimise its performance depending on its placement as a left, centre, or right channel speaker. It features a 1.5" ‘M’-shaped Beryllium Tweeter, which Focal says improves transient response and treble clarity. The 5" ‘M’-shaped ‘W’-cone Midrange Driver is intended to provide transparency and natural voice reproduction, with an optimised magnet structure to reduce resonance. The 13" High-Excursion ‘W’-Cone Woofer is housed in a vented cabinet designed for deep, controlled bass response.

The Cinema SUB is positioned as a high-performance subwoofer for home theatre applications. According to Focal, its two 13” high-excursion woofers provide bass extension down to 19Hz. The Large Front Laminar Port is designed to minimise distortion while maximising sound pressure and efficiency, while the cabinet construction is built to withstand high SPL configurations.

The Utopia Cinema range has been developed using a modular approach. Offering maximum versatility, speakers and subwoofers can be installed on-wall, in-wall, horizontally, or vertically to suit room size and acoustics. The company says the range is compatible with its 1000 Series, which shares similar driver technologies, ensuring a consistent sound signature across different setups.

With the Utopia Cinema range, Focal continues positioning itself as a key player in the high-end home cinema market. While real-world performance will depend on installation and room acoustics, the company suggests that this lineup offers a refined and high-quality listening experience for dedicated home theatre environments.

Pricing information to hand from Focal says the new Utopia additions will become available from September 2025, with the Cinema LCR landing at US$11,999, and Cinema SUB available for US$5,999.

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
