Good Sound, Good Food at Gasolina

Is there a greater mix than seamlessly blending high end sound, culinary works of art, and custom motorbikes?
Held at Gasolina on the wintery evening of June 24th, over 30 attendees were treated to the refined cuisine on offer from South Wharf, and one of Melbourne’s most unique restaurants. Surrounded by industrial styling and custom vintage bobbers, the venue’s workshop served as the makeshift demonstration room for Lenehan Audio, with Mike Lenehan himself on-hand, joined by fellow Queenslander Clayton Gieseler of PDX DAC fame.
Lenehan Audio being the boutique brand it is doesn’t always afford the opportunity for interested hi-fi enthusiasts to audition their speakers across Australia. StereoNET creates these opportunities for readers to meet with and gain a better understanding of the people behind the brands, as well as audition products in a relaxed environment with no sales pressure.
In a room far from ideal with hard reflective surfaces in every direction, Lenehan’s ML2 Limited speakers certainly energised the room which is no small feat considering it’s about 10 times the size ML2 Limited were original designed and optimised for. All that from nothing more than a six-inch woofer!
While all attendees we spoke to commented very favourably on the stand-mounts output ability and accuracy, hard reflections were causing a little sibilance and bright top-end; but we’re being critical at an event touted as a non-critical listening, social event.
Lenehan took the opportunity to give a presentation and announce some coming changes to the Lenehan Audio business model. Lenehan Audio’s products will soon be available via select retail outlets dotted across Australia. Despite his loquacious reputation, Lenehan freely handed the stage over to Gieseler who also announced changes to his business. It is encouraging to see Aussie boutique manufacturers enjoying success in their businesses and showing growth at a difficult time in the economy.
Gasolina’s bar was well supported with numerous styles of beverages and craft beers flowing; and as the night kicked on and inhibitions lowered, by all accounts attendees certainly appeared to be enjoying themselves. The usual banter between the usual suspects, as well as Gieseler and Lenehan mingling with attendees offering insight to just what goes into their brands and producing world-class products.
The food crafted by Gasolina’s Head Chef, Wylie Dean was superb as would be expected from a celebrity chef that has travelled the world.
The evening was a great success, and will become a semi-regular event with different brands invited to attend and showcase their products, promoting good-sound, music and hi-fi, a cause StereoNET is devoted to.
StereoNET would like to thanks Mike Lenehan, Clayton Gieseler, Gasolina, and of course all attendees for supporting this event.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
