LEXICON SL-1 ACTIVE LOUDSPEAKER SYSTEM BOASTS 32 SPEAKERS

At the High End show, the HARMAN Group has taken the wrappers off the Lexicon SL-1, which the company is touting as a groundbreaking loudspeaker system that continues the brand’s tradition of innovation.

One neat thing that the Lexicon SL-1 can do is be freely positioned in any room and thanks to the nifty advanced beam steering technology you can control the sweet spot. The upshot of that is you are guaranteed an optimal listening experience.

Lexicon SL-1

Designed as an utterly wireless solution, the loudspeaker system comprises two active floorstanding loudspeakers, each equipped with 33 loudspeaker drivers (12x 3/4-inch tweeters, 16x 2-inch midrange drivers, 4x 5.2-inch woofers and a 10-inch subwoofer) and 23 amplifier channels, each with an output of 650 watts (RMS) per loudspeaker.

The drivers are arranged in a 360-degree configuration around the Lexicon loudspeaker’s hourglass-shaped housing.

A detachable 4-panel grille reveals this impressive configuration, while automatic EQ settings enhance playback for operation with or without grilles mounted.

Two LED rings, discreetly integrated into the loudspeaker chassis, round off the elegant appearance of the Lexicon SL-1 and simultaneously serve to visualise the width and direction of the sound dispersion.

The Lexicon SLC-1 wireless controller complements the floorstanding loudspeakers and establishes the connection to the audio source via a variety of interfaces.

In addition to streaming via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n/ac), the Lexicon SLC-1 offers four HDMI inputs, an HDMI ARC output, a 3.5 mm jack and an optical SPDIF input.

You can also connect the SL-1 to your home network via an Ethernet interface (10/100 Mbps, RJ45).

The speaker system supports high-definition 24-bit transmission and universal audio standards, including PCM, AAC, FLAC, MP3 and WMA (via HDMI and SPDIF).

Furthermore, Lexicon SL-1 is fully compatible with Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround (via HDMI and SPDIF) and supports UHD video signals with up to 4K resolution (HDCP 2.2 compatible).

Scott Campbell, Global Sales Director Luxury Audio at HARMAN told StereoNET:

With the Lexicon SL-1, we present a completely flexible all-in-one loudspeaker system of the absolute premium class. Crafted in an iconic design, this system offers unprecedented possibilities in terms of controlling and optimising the sound reproduction according to the personal requirements of the user and their spatial conditions. What is more, the Lexicon SL-1 is one of the most elegant and powerful solutions for a fully-fledged and future-proof home entertainment setting.

The Lexicon SL-1 will become available during the fourth quarter of 2019. The recommended retail price is 43,000EUR or 40,000 GBP (incl. VAT).

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
