Magico Announce S7 Floor Stander Speakers

Magico, a Californian based boutique loudspeaker manufacturer has announced the 'S7', a full range, 3 way floor standing loudspeaker. Standing at 142cms, the S7 towers over other products in the award winning S-Series line.

Boris Granovsky of Absolute Hi End, the Australian Magico distributors told StereoNET:

This new model incorporates new tweeter, midrange and bass driver designs which are derived from the engineering triumphs in the M-Project loudspeaker. The M-Project was a very high end limited edition loudspeaker (just 50 pairs were made) to celebrate the companys 10th year anniversary. We're very pleased to see the release of the S7.

According to Magico, the acoustic suspension enclosure of the S7 features curved aluminum side panels that are machined in-house from half-inch thick aluminum extrusions which are 16" in diameter. Internal bracing is also carefully positioned throughout the enclosure to minimize resonances and create an ideal operating environment.

The Magico S7 comprises three new 10" bass drivers that are said to have extremely powerful magnets and ultra stiff aluminum cones which are capable of producing deep powerful bass frequencies with speed and accuracy. The excursion rate of the voice coil is measured at 15mm linear movement and "produces clean and undistorted sound pressure levels up to 120dB @ 50Hz / 1-meter."

The 6" midrange driver cone material is formulated using new materials (Arkema Multi-Wall carbon nanotube and XG Sciences C-750 Nanographene) which when combined is 20% lighter and 300% stiffer than previous cone material designs, according to Magico.

Highs are taken care of by a new 1" tweeter that features a diamond-coated beryllium diaphragm with optimised geometry. With a neodymium based motor system that is customised to match the sensitivity and power handling
capabilities of the S7, ultra-wide dispersion characteristics and ultra-low distortion measurements are maintained.

All five drivers in the Magico S7 are acoustically integrated using our exclusive Elliptical Symmetry Crossover topology that includes state-of-the-art components from Mundorf of Germany.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
