Master and Dynamic’s MH40 Returns Without Cables

Master & Dynamic has revived its MH40 headphones but cut the cables.
Birthdays are a great excuse to celebrate with something a little different. So, to mark Master & Dynamic's fifth anniversary, they have reissued its iconic MH40 over-ear headphones in a wireless format.
The new MH40 Wireless (£279) is the latest evolution of the brand's over-ear cans and retains the vintage aviator-inspired aesthetic with canvas and lambskin details.
The new model features Bluetooth 5.0 and boasts 18 hours of battery life. Moreover, we're promised an empty to 50% charge in 30 minutes and 100% in 80, via USB-C.
Additionally, you get 40mm neodymium drivers, a quoted 32 ohms impedance and microphones for hands-free calls.
Master & Dynamic Founder & CEO Jonathan Levine told StereoNET:
The MH40 was the first product we designed at Master & Dynamic, and I remember that moment in the brand's history very well. That iconic pair of headphones became the backbone of our product DNA and has influenced every product to come after it.
Points of Interest
The original MH40 headphones featured coordinates of New York's Grand Central Station etched under the left ear pad, and the new MH40 Wireless Over-Ear Headphones takes the idea global. Each pair features the coordinates of one of ten cultural hotspots from around the world on the outer earcup.
You can learn more about the coordinates on their headphones by visiting the company's blog, The 10,000, at masterdynamic.com/coordinates.
Price and availability
The MH40 Wireless Over-Ear Headphones are available in Gunmetal / Black Coated Canvas & Lambskin, Black Metal / Black Coated Canvas & Lambskin and Silver Metal / Brown Coated Canvas & Lambskin for £279 direct from Master & Dynamic.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
