Monitor Audio Anthra Subwoofer Series Revealed

Monitor Audio's new Anthra Subwoofer Series boasts powerful amplification driving the latest metal-driver tech supported by intuitive app functionality for advanced DSP configuration.
The Monitor Audio Anthra Subwoofer range is topped by the W15 featuring a 15-inch (38cm) driver powered by a Class-D 1,400 Watt amplifier. The Anthra W12 sees a 12-inch (30cm) driver powered by a Class D 900 Watt amplifier, while the Anthra W10 uses a 425 Watt amp to drive its 10-inch (25cm) cone.
Monitor Audio's three-model Anthra Subwoofer Series promises musicality and control thanks to the strong, lightweight, and highly rigid C-CAM cones. Furthermore, this is the first time Monitor Audio has used its Rigid Surface Technology II (RST II) on a subwoofer cone. This tech is said to significantly increase cone rigidity and offers much higher resistance to bending stress. Therefore, it exhibits much greater fidelity over its entire operating range for a cleaner, clearer, more precise sound presentation.
Powering the RST II C-CAM high-excursion driver is a Class-D 425, 900 and 1,400 Watts RMS amplifier depending on the model, capable of a claimed 500, 1700 and 2500 Watts peak, respectively.
This is all wrapped up in the Anthra subwoofer's thick MDF cabinet, boasting up to 1.4-inch thick (36mm) external walls and 3/4-inch (19mm) thick internal walls with carefully configured bracing that has been acoustically optimised for extreme strength.
Meanwhile, you will find comprehensive connectivity options on the rear panel, including RCA with LFE, and XLR inputs for professional installation options. You can also daisy chain up to four Anthra subwoofers. Additionally, a full-colour display and rotatory dial enable access to the setup selection menu, offering a quick setup procedure and connecting and integrating any Anthra subwoofer into a home cinema system.
You can also use Monitor Audio's in-house-designed MaestroUnite setup app to optimally configure any Anthra subwoofer and share the settings across multiple subwoofers when used within a single system.
The Anthra subwoofers are available from August in a choice of Satin White and High Gloss Black finishes with pricing starting at £1,650/ €2,150 for the Anthra W10 with the Anthra W12 costing £1,900/ €2,450 and the series flagship Anthra W15 priced at £2,500/ €3,200.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
