New Parasound DAC a Natural

Headphones and DAcs are hot property with the Head-Fi generation. Parasound wants to join the party with its Zdac AD1853 hitting the dealers’ shelves around the country.
Without skimping, Parasound made a bee-line to the celebrated Halo 1 CD player for the new DAC’s Analog Devices AD1853 Multibit Sigma Delta 192kHz DAC. Parasound also employed the expertise of Denmark’s Holm Acoustics, to engineer the AD1853.
Australian distributor, Claver Harper of Network Audio Visual rates the new DAC highly, praising its naturalness and lack of digital grunge.
‘’Thanks to its unique internal architecture, which comprises upsampling and reclocking, the ZDac sounds more natural and less ‘’digital’’ than far more costlier DACs. According to many it actually rivals DACs with $5,000 price tags,’’ he said.
Zdac will work nicely with 32kHz to 192kHz sampling rates and has a 120dB signal-to-noise ratio as well as a THD of 107dB. the Zdac’s input bitstream is handled by an Analog Devices AD1895 Asynchronous Sample Rae Converter which has a spanking new, dead accurate clock working at 105.5kHz.
Headphone devotees will also like the Zdac’s high-current headphone output which has volume control and can handle headphones from 32 to 600 Ohms. Balanced and RCA outputs are also featured. The Zdac comes in a choice of silver or black and is nicely priced at $799.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
