New Sphere 48 and Starlight 48 HDMI Cables from Wireworld

One of the most respected names in AV cables, Wireworld, has released its new range of Sphere 48 and Starlight 48 HDMI Cables.

Wireworld Sphere 48 HDMI2.1 Cables

The Sphere 48 HDMI cables utilise Wireworld's proprietary Uni-Path design and ultra-quiet Composilex 3 insulation which the company says offers improved sound and image quality. Sphere exceeds the industry standards for 48Gbps transmission, ensuring support of all HDMI2.1 capabilities, including 8K resolution, Dynamic HDR, VRR, HDCP2.3 and Enhanced Audio Return Channel.

Wireworld says that beyond the requirements of HDMI2.1, additional technical issues influence the sound and image quality of HDMI cables. The problem said to have the most significant effect on sound quality is triboelectric noise, which is generated within the cable by the interaction of conductors and insulation material. In their third generation, "Wireworld's Composilex insulation material minimises triboelectric noise so effectively that sound quality is substantially improved". The increased clarity and smoothness of sound with these cables resulted from intensive research that included direct comparisons of sound quality before and after the signal passed through the cable.

Sphere 48 is an improved version of the original Uni-Path, Composilex 3 insulated design. The cable structure features three layers of shielding for freedom from interference and is highly flexible for ease of installation and increased durability. With this refined structure and ultra-quiet Composilex 3 insulation, Sphere 48 provides enhanced performance and superior long-term value. In addition to supporting all HDMI2.1 features and capabilities, Sphere 48 is also UL-CL2/FT4 rated for in-wall installation.

The SRP is from £69.95 and is now available in lengths of 0.6m, 1m, 2m, and 3m (with 5m to follow).

Wireworld Starlight 48 Optical HDMI 2.1 Cables

These extended-range cables utilise the highest quality laser modules and driver chips to improve image quality and provide long term reliability, while supporting the 48Gbps data rate required for next-generation video applications.

Wireworld Starlight 48 fulfils the need for a fibre optic HDMI cable that provides both state-of-the-art performance and extreme reliability. Starlight 48 utilises world-class parts, materials, and construction techniques to accomplish that goal. Starlight 48's laser modules are made by the American company II-VI, a leading supplier of lasers for the most demanding applications. The driver chipset is also produced by the German company, Silicon-Line, a leader in microchip technology.

The cable's four optical fibres are of the superior OM3 laser-optimised grade. The cable structure features double-thickness shields and several high strength Kevlar fibre bundles for increased durability and freedom from interference. With these world-class components, materials and structure, the company says, "Starlight 48 provides enhanced performance and superior long-term value."

Starlight 48 supports all HDMI2.1 features and capabilities, including HDR10+, HDCP2.3, Ethernet, Enhanced ARC, Deep Color, etc. To ease installation, the durable die-cast zinc plugs feature an extremely narrow width of 18mm, so they can be pulled through common-sized electrical conduit. Starlight 48 is also UL-C2/FT4 rated for residential and commercial installations.

The SRP is from £400 and is available in 5m, 10m, 15m, 20m and 30m lengths.

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
