Box Design

Pro-Ject Audio Systems are also expanding their Box Design range of hi-fi electronics this year with the reintroduction of popular models with latest-generation aesthetics and technical characteristics.

Maia S2

Maia S2

The Maia S2 (£435.00 SRP) brings new generation aesthetics to Pro-Ject’s popular Maia integrated amplifier.

My Audiophile Integrated Amplifier, or Maia, represents all that is good about modern hi-fi. It’s compact, powerful, feature-rich, elegant and affordable. Maia S2 features a DAC, a phono stage, a wireless receiver, a headphone amplifier and an integrated amplifier all into one compact chassis.

Boasting nine inputs, Maia S2 is designed to accommodate any modern source. The high-grade DAC chip is capable of handling up to 24-bit / 192kHz digital audio files (Optical inputs are limited to 24-bit / 96kHz), Maia S2 easily handles most common digital audio formats. Additionally, working with aptX technology in the A2DP pairing profile, Maia S2 is also capable of streaming high-quality audio wirelessly when the supplied Bluetooth antenna is connected.

CD Box S2

CD Box S2

The CD Box S2 (£325.00 SRP), which builds on the enduring popularity of the CD Box S, is available across the UK now.

The CD Box S2 is a compact slot-load CD player, carefully manufactured to an industrial standard utilising aluminium casework and buttons. Designed to match the S2 electronics line, the added benefit to this design is that its small form-factor allows it to fit easily near any existing audio system. But it’s more than just a convenience piece, as it also features a premium sound performance.

The CD Box S2 is a pure CD player, allowing 1:1 bit-accurate CD playback, performing to a higher standard than many multi-format Disc players.

The CD Box S2’s new and advanced 384kHz DAC board enables a more precise and detailed conversion process, plus a new feature is the ability to switch between digital Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) and Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filters. FIR filters are more complex DSP-operations and require more computational power; however, they facilitate a finer, linear processing of the digital signal.

Power Box S2

The Power Box S2 (£175.00 SRP) and Accu Box S2 (£215.00 SRP) are brand new additions, overcoming the most common issues associated with external power supplies.

Accu Box S2

Accu Box S2

The Accu Box S2 is a high-end, accu-driven power supply designed to deliver, clean power to selected Pro-Ject products.

The Accu Box S2 uses five cells of rechargeable Li-Pol batteries with a capacity of 2.5Ah. To ensure a long life for the batteries, it is also designed with over-charge, over-discharge and over-current protection built-in. There are also LED indicators to show the charging and mains status of the box.

The Accu Box S2 is a high-end offering in the affordable audiophile realm, bringing clean battery power in particular to phono stages that would typically not have such a high-end solution available to them.

Stream Box S2

Stream Box S2

The Stream Box S2 (£215.00 SRP) is a brand-new addition to the range, joining the family as Pro-Ject’s most affordable streaming solution ever.

The Stream Box S2 is a high-quality network audio streamer with support for high-resolution data up to 24-bit / 192kHz. With both ease of use and sound quality at its core, the Stream Box S2 makes playing your music easy – whether it’s owned music stored on your phone or held on a NAS drive, or just streamed using the world’s most recognised subscription and internet radio streaming platforms.
Alongside the wireless and wired network connection options, there are also three audio output options; Fixed line-level (RCA pair) for use as a traditional source, variable (mini-jack) for use with powered speakers or power amplifiers, or digital (optical) transmission for connection straight to a dedicated DAC.

The Stream Box S2 is easy to set-up and add to the network, and is controlled by Pro-Ject’s new free iOS and Android App, “Pro-Ject Stream S2”. Boasting full Tidal integration inside the app interface and Spotify Connect built-in, radio fans will also be happy to learn that the popular TuneIn internet radio streaming platform is also built-in. There is also a Line Input, for introducing traditional sources to your streaming environment, and a USB input for playback direct from a USB hard drive.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
