PURE MUSIC GROUP SET TO SHINE AT MELBOURNE HI-FI SHOW
Turntable devotees have a moveable feast of vinyl spinners to enjoy at this year’s Melbourne International Hi-Fi Show, courtesy of the Pure Music Group (don’t you just love that name?).
When we say a moveable feast, we aren’t joshing. Not when the main course is the formidable and newly released TechDAS Premium Three turntable running with the Thales flagship tonearm called the Statement.
This is the first time in Australia for this exquisite turntable and tonearm so get in early because the Pure Music Group room is bound to attract a crowd.
Cartridge chosen for the Premium Three is none less than Lyra’s pedigree Etna moving coil. The combination is poised to get the senses reeling as the vinyl spins.
Also debuting in Room Lake 4 (Level 1) for the first time is the Stilla loudspeaker from Aequo Audio. StereoNET founder, Marc Rushton first heard the Stilla while he was covering the High-End Show in Munich earlier this year, and reports that not only it is audio eye candy at its best, it's certainly worthy of your audition at the upcoming show.
The Stilla may be entry level in the Aequo range but don’t let this fool you. This is a pedigree hybrid model featuring an active woofer, passive midrange and tweeter and crossovers that handle the signal in the analogue domain.
The system chosen for the Stilla includes the Antipodes Audio flagship CX+EX music server paired with the extraordinary Playback Designs Dream Series DAC, called the MPD8. The TechDAS Premium Three turntable will also feature in this system.
Pure Music Group will also be showing Kii Audio's KiiTHREE active audio system reviewed recently by StereoNET. Our assessment was that this is a room friendly, compact high-end audio system that offered terrific value for money and the ability to be tuned to every room.
The gear linked to the Kii THREE comprises the new Antipodes Audio CX music server and the outstanding Kuzma Stabi S turntable fitted with a Phasemation PP-500 cartridge.
Pure Music Group will have two demonstration systems rotating every two hours for the duration of the show. But there will also be a passive display of Pure Music Group’s inventory including turntables and tonearms.
The room will also feature acoustic treatment by Melbourne’s Vector Acoustics using its own tuned corner bass traps, broadband absorbers, quadratic diffusers and hybrid diffusers/absorbers.
Finally, Pure Music Group will have a new range of isolation and anti-vibration products sourced from HiFiStay. So there’s plenty see and hear in the Room Lake 4, at the 2018 Melbourne International Hi-Fi Show - October 12-14, Albert Park. Tickets are on sale now.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
