Record Store Day 2020 Becomes Three Day Event

Record Store Day 2020 has been postponed again and will now cover three Saturdays, later in the year.

RSD2020 was all set to happen in April but was then moved to June 20th. However, that didn't stop Cyrus Audio from celebrating a virtual version of which StereoNET UK was proudly involved with.

RSD 2020

The latest news is that the Record Store Day organisers have cancelled the June event and set three new dates for later in the year.

The result of this latest update is that records on the official Record Store Day release list will now be available on one of three Record Store Day "drop" dates, all of which land on a Saturday - August 29th, September 26th, and October 24th. Additionally, there will be an updated list of 2020 Record Store Day releases revealed on June 1st.

Record Store Day 2020 Dates

An official statement from The Record Store Day organisers reads:

The focus of these three RSD Drop dates is on supporting the stores, as well as the artists, labels, distribution and every other business behind the scenes making record stores work. This current RSD 2020 plan to spread the spotlight and the support over three months was made with as much available information as possible and gives the largest number of stores a chance to participate globally in the strangest Record Store Day ever.

The statement goes on to reassure vinylistas that "RSD will be using the guidance of government and scientific experts to ensure these RSD Drop dates are as socially responsible and safe for all involved as possible." Also, our expectations are being carefully, and rightfully, managed as they go on to say: "Don't necessarily expect all the normal in-store celebrations and events as these changes have been made to allow customers to get the RSD product safely in a socially distanced world."

Some disappointed LP fans are calling for the releases to be made available online - which kind of defeats the object of getting people into their local record store. But, you never know what will happen as it is highly unlikely that anything will go entirely back to normal anytime soon.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
