Robert Costello Retires as General Manager of Canohm

After 18 years as the face of Canohm, the Melbourne based AV distributor, General Manager Robert Costello has announced his retirement.

Costello joined Canohm in 2003 following successful stints at Scan Audio (now Qualifi) and Pioneer Electronics.

Speaking of his retirement, Robert told StereoNET:

It's been an amazing adventure with Canohm as we represented only two brands back in 2003 - Vogel's TV mounts and Canton Hi-Fi speakers. In 2004 we acquired Sangean radios and prepared for the nationwide launch of Digital Radio, and now many years later we stand proud with 10 brands across various channels, with many more staff now operating out of a prestigious new building and turnover quadrupled.

He continued:

It is very emotional as I hand over the reins to a new guard, but the time is right to let new blood take the company to new heights.

Canohm says Robert will remain with the company in a part-time product management capacity until early 2022. The new guard at Canohm starts with Mike Swann, formerly of Radio Parts Group as the National Sales Manager - CE Division and long term Canohm staffer Dave Coultas as the new General Manager.

Canohm says Mike brings a wealth of experience with his strong leadership and sales and marketing prowess. Coultas is a highly respected manager heading up Canohm's Supply Chain and Operations department and is well placed to lead the company with a strong focus on stability and adaptability.

Coultas commented:

We have a great team and culture at Canohm and I take the reins at an exciting time. The goal as always is stable organic growth but with an increased focus on agility so we can better adapt in this challenging COVID environment.

It's a new era for Canohm, celebrating over six decades in business this year. We look forward to the next chapter under the direction of Swann and Coultas and wish Robert the very best health and happiness in his well-earned retirement.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
