Sony 4K UHD TV Receives EISA Award

The European Imaging and Sound Association has recognised Sony's KD-65X9005B as the 'European 4K Ultra HD TV 2014-2015'. The second generation Sony 4K TV offers the UHD resolution of 3,840 by 2,160 pixels in a dramatically styled casing. The wedge-shaped body and three-way forwards facing speakers made a statement appreciated by EISA. WIth improved 'Magnetic Fluid' speakers backed by 65 watts of power, EISA said 'no other TV sounds as good.' It notes that the TV supports an optional wireless subwoofer for even better audio performance.
The Australian version of this TV is the KD-65X9005B. It features a massive 65 inch LED screen with local backlighting for strong black performance, and Sony's latest 4K X-Reality PRO image processing electronics. Support has been added for HDMI 2.0, the latest enhancement of the international connection standard. This allows the TV to accept signals from future sources delivering 4K at 50p and 60p, well beyond the 24p, 25p and 30p of previous models. Also future proofing the TV is HDCP 2.2 (the next standard in content protection), MHL 3.0 for the display of 4K content from mobile devices, and the new highly efficient HEVC video codec which is likely to dominate 4K content delivery.
Picture quality enhancements include 'X-Tended Dynamic Range' which increases peak brightness levels while preserving dark areas, and Sony's Motionflow XR 800 motion smoothing processing. EISA particularly noted that Sony's Triluminos display system 'offers a wide range of natural and realistic colours'.
Conveniences include the recording of TV programs to an attached USB hard drive, Skype support, control using an app on your iOS or Android phone or tablet, and forthcoming Freeview+ support, following the Australian launch of Freeview+ from September.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
