Stack Audio Serene Stabiliser & Serene Mat Enhance Joy of Decks

Stack Audio's Serene Stabiliser and Serene Mat bring new thinking to vibration absorption technology for enhancing vinyl playback.

Stack Audio recognises the unique challenges turntable owners face and announces its unique approach to vibration absorption tech in the form of its new Serene Stabiliser and Mat. It says this results in enhanced vinyl playback whether the two new products are used separately or in concert.

Stack Audio Serene Stabiliser

The Stack Audio Serene Stabiliser is said to address vibrations at the source rather than relying on mass. Where traditional weights press down on records and risk straining turntable motors or altering tonal balance, we're told the Serene Stabiliser uses an innovative, patent-pending Tension Activated Particle Absorption (TAPA) system to effectively dissipate vibrations.

Stack Audio says this lightweight 85g design "preserves tonal integrity, enhances clarity, and delivers a more immersive listening experience."

The Serene Stabiliser measures 77mm in diameter and 25mm high, fits over the turntable spindle and rests on the record label. Compatible with turntables (rigid or suspended) with a 14mm (including record) spindle length or lower, it consists of a machined aluminium casing containing lightweight particles enclosed by a silicone membrane.

At the centre of the membrane is a machined hub that fits over the turntable spindle whilst the aluminium body presses down to create a secure fit.

The tension created by the hub stretches the silicone membrane into a taught trampoline-like surface, allowing the internal particles to be excited by the micro-vibrations present on the record's surface.

Utilising the principles of Stack Audio's AUVA particle impact damping technology reconfigured to handle micro-vibrations, the Serene Stabiliser employs lightweight rubber particles to manage vibrational energy by colliding and converting it into heat through friction.

According to the brand, this works in tandem with a flexible membrane surface, which ensures the most efficient transmission of micro-vibrational energy to the particles.

This dual-mechanism design helps prevent vibrations from reaching the stylus, allowing it to track the undulations in the groove with greater precision and clarity.

Meanwhile, the Serene Mat is a patent-pending design featuring deformable sprung pads tuned with advanced computational analysis. It promises to effectively absorb micro-vibrations that can otherwise be transmitted to the record, masking and degrading the audio signal picked up by the stylus.

Stack Audio Serene Mat

Stack Audio states that traditional turntable mats, made from felt, rubber, cork, or rubber, etc., have inherent limitations due to their large horizontal surface area and minimal thickness. These prevent them from flexing under the lightweight record, leaving them dependent solely on limited damping and restricting their ability to manage vibrations across the full frequency spectrum.

Stack Audio Serene Mat

The Serene Mat, however, combines four precision-tuned sprung pads, each with a raised nib that helps centre the record's weight on the springs. Stack Audio states this focused pressure activates the springs, allowing them to absorb micro-vibrations that conventional mats do not address.

Made from specially formulated silicone, the Mat benefits from the combination of the pad stiffness and the damping qualities of the silicone material itself. Together, these elements promise superior vibration isolation, enhancing clarity and revealing hidden details in your music no matter the weight of your 7-, 10-, or 12-inch records.

Available now, the Stack Audio Serene Stabiliser costs £195, and the Serene Mat is £75.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
