Set to become a defining market trend in coming years, Danish audio company and maker of some of the world's finest music and home cinema systems Steinway Lyngdorf has just released their new Model P200 Surround Sound Processor, which is promising to deliver a high-definition digital surround sound experience that the world has never heard before.

Simply a must-have to arm your home with that cinema listening experience, the Model P200 is equipped to produce fully immersive audio. It supports all of the leading surround sound technologies including Dolby Atmos® and Auro-3D®, as well as DTS:X, which is a leading technology found in both commercial and home theatre systems.

When integrated with the Model P200, these three technologies are capable of delivering a cinema-quality listening experience with fully immersive audio, just as the filmmakers intended you to hear it. Now with the ability of added height and top layer elements contained within a soundtrack, you will be able to hear all of the sweet and subtle elements as they smoothly float between each speaker, which makes each adventure feel even more real. Also part of the Model P200’s magic is Lyngdorf's RoomPerfect technology that calibrates and equalizes the system within its specific environment, which can correct any anomalies in the sound that are introduced by the room itself.

Eminently capable with multiple speaker setups, the Model P200 works in perfect harmony with your other gear, allowing you to have your speakers placed in the one position and, with the flick of a button, you can switch between Dolby Atmos and Auro-3D. This will now optimize a single surround sound system for either format fluidly with minimal effort or reconfiguration.

In addition to state-of-the-art surround processing, the Model P200 is 4K and 3D video ready, HDCP 2.2-compliant, and supports advanced HDMI switching, allowing any HDMI input to be routed to any HDMI output. Like its predecessor, the P1, the P200 is equipped with Steinway Lyngdorf’s RoomPerfect room-correction system and full digital signal processing that keeps the audio stream in the digital domain throughout the audio chain.

Now you get to hear the immersive soundtrack just the way it was intended when it was first mixed. With the Model P200, the system is optimised for each format, every time. And with an energy efficient design, it automatically turns off unused amplifiers when in stereo mode and draws less than 0.5 W in standby mode.

Steinway Lyngdorf say that their approach to sound reproduction is a bit different from the mainstream, as they consider frequency response is secondary. They have found that impulse response, or proper time domain performance, much more important in creating a believable illusion of real, three-dimensional sound. They say once you get the impulse response right, correct frequency response can always be attained.

Steinway Lyngdorf Model P200 Surround Sound Processor (available in matte black) is available now for $49,895 RRP

Steinway Lyngdorf is distributed in Australia by Advance Audio.

applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
