The thing is the +Record Player debuts at a time when the audio world is going in two different directions.

Digital is making headway thanks to wireless streaming and online music services. So much so, the stores report heavy traffic of youngish music lovers beating paths to their doors to snap up DACs, Streamers, XLR AES cables and anything else that satisfies their digital streaming addiction.

But, and here’s a significant bit of irony, the same youngish buyer demographic is buying analogue turntables and vinyl records in vast quantities.

Enter Bob Hazelwood, the fellow that designed much of the technology that goes into each Plus record Player.

+Audio, the company behind the new vinyl spinner will tell you the +Record Player is the bee’s knees; and, it’s also a technological masterpiece.

You’d expect any company to blow its own horn about its products.  But touting revolutionary technology requires the proof that’s said to be in the eating of the proverbial pudding.

Here’s what we know about the nifty +Record Player: as a self-contained vinyl based audio system, it’s said to dip down to 50hz in the bass using a patent pending unique technology.

One that had mass appeal because people were tripping over each other to give moolah to +Audio’s Kickstarter campaign. A campaign that was said to be massively overfunded.

What’s that we said about turntables and vinyl going gangbusters?

These crowd-funding backers loved the idea of a stylish all-in-one vinyl playing audio system that was designed by the canny Scandinavian designer, Alexander Ahnebrink. 

While he may or may not have an unpronounceable surname, Alexander gave the +Record Player these features: a 2-way bi-amped speaker system with vibration cancelling architecture, two long excursion 3.5-inch woofers and two 1-inch soft dome tweeters.

Also on board is 56-Bit Double Precision DSP that is said to have a 100dB signal to noise ratio. The amplifiers supplying all the grunt are Class-D models with two of them rated at 35 watts each and another two generating 15 watts each.

The turntable section of this new player is derived from whom else? Pro-Ject.

The point is, it qualifies as an audiophile grade, belt driven player. It uses a 24 pole synchronous motor with crystal stabilised digital electronic speed control. It has two speeds-33 1/3 and 45 RPM.

The +Record player has a built-in phono stage, an auxiliary analogue plus two optical SPDIF inputs.

It also provides Bluetooth for streaming music from say, a smartphone along with USB that allows you to rip your vinyl to a PC or Mac as digital files. 

The +Record Player has an auto signal sensing line input and 5-volt power supply. And yes, it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Google Cast.

Also handy is a pre-amp output to drive an additional external amp or powered speakers.

Two models of the +Record Player are currently available, and both use a Pro-Ject Debut carbon plinth and platter. 

The dearest model has a Debut carbon fibre tonearm and an Ortofon 2M red cartridge which sells for $2199 RRP. The other model has the Essential 3 tonearm with an Ortofon OM10 cartridge which sells for $1899 RRP.
