The UK’s Hi-Fi Shops Reopen

This week sees Britain's hi-fi stores opening their doors once again, following the lockdown period.
Like other shops and public-facing retailers, hi-fi stores are closely following government safety guidelines to ensure the wellbeing of their customers.
Chord Electronics' extensive UK dealer network is mostly open. However, it's best if you check that your local store is accessible via the company's online dealer locator tool. The Kent company has posted further details on its website.
Melco Audio's UK retailers are also opening this week, along with the Japanese company's top-tier Melco Master Dealers with all outlets listed on the company's online dealer page. It appears that Melco Audio's Free Home Demo scheme was popular and kept music lovers in hardware while bricks and mortar stores remain closed.
McIntosh Laboratory distributor Jordan Acoustics reopens its luxurious Bournemouth store this week by appointment only. Additional UK McIntosh dealers will also be welcoming customers through their doors - full listings can be found on the dealer locator.
Leema Acoustics is also reporting its dealers are opening their doors this week. The Welshpool factory has remained (safely) open throughout the lockdown, producing its hand-built hi-fi components. The company's UK dealers, along with its Centres of Excellence, can be found on its website.
Chord Company, who recently launched its own hardware brand, English Electric, is welcoming back its dealers this week too. Many of the outlets offer a speaker cable termination service following the rollout of the ChordOhmic Hex Gun this time last year. Chord Company (and English Electric) dealers can be found online.
Hi-fi stores stocking and demonstrating Japanese speaker specialist ECLIPSE's range are also opening this week, with customers advised to check in advance first. Confirmed stores include Audiologica; Cool Gales; Doug Brady Hi-Fi; Hi-Fi Sound; Ripcaster; Robert Taussig and Sonata HiFi plus Richer Sounds' Southampton, Reading and Plymouth stores by appointment only.
While this is all good news for the industry and our hobby, we cannot stress enough the importance for you to be safe on your journies and to follow the government guidelines for your own safety and the health of others.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
