Wilson Audio Alexx V Now Official

We brought you early news of Wilson Audio's Alexx V, and now it has gone official; we can share more details and features of the American brand's new and improved Alexx loudspeaker.
Firstly, Wilson Audio is keen to underline just how different Alexx V is from the preceding version. It is instantly evident that Alexx V shares the same skeletonised architecture as seen on the WAMM Master Chronosonic and the Chronosonic XVX. This then brings in the need for the gantry grilles to be seamlessly attached via embedded magnets. Interestingly, Alexx Vs overall size is only 1-inch deeper and 1-inch taller than Alexx Series 1 and remains the same width as Alexx Series 1.
That said, Wilson has kept the Midrange – Tweeter – Midrange (MTM) design geometry of the original Alexx. However, we are assured that considerable time has been put into advancing critical components of the loudspeaker's sound characteristics. The time-alignment accuracy of Alexx V is much closer to the XVX, apparently giving this system the ability to recreate micro-detail one would expect from a much larger system.
Alexx V is equipped with the new 7-inch Alnico QuadraMag developed for XVX, partnered with the 5.75-inch mid-woofer used in the original Alexx, TuneTot, and SabrinaX. Additionally, it benefits from the new AudioCapX-WA capacitors in its crossovers. These are uniquely wound at Wilson Audio to tight tolerances, we are told. Furthermore, there have been several crossover changes resulting in fewer components in the signal path. Wilson says that it has fine-tuned and modified the system for better Impedance and Sensitivity measurements — From a minimum impedance measurement of 1.5 ohms (Alexx) to 2.0 ohms (Alexx V). Alexx V is +1dB more sensitive than Alexx Series 1.
According to Wilson Audio, behind the midrange drivers, internal wave diffusers have been machined directly into the material to further aid the resolving power of these drivers and dramatically increase the system's settling speed. We are told to expect a more lifelike reproduction of midrange tone, expression, and accuracy in these remarkable midrange drivers.
Also new for Alexx V is Wilson's in-house 3D printed carbon fibre Convergent Synergy Carbon (CSC) Tweeter rear-wave chamber. The manufacturer states that this unique design provides greater high-frequency extension, more linear frequency response, and better harmonic detail.
Wilson Audio originally developed the 10.5-inch and 12.5-inch woofers in conjunction with the WAMM Master Chronosonic. Here they have been carefully optimised for Alexx V's enclosure, which has +16% more internal volume than the original Alexx. The net result is that Alexx V features almost the same internal woofer volume as the Chronosonic XVX, boasts Wilson. Overall, Wilson Audio states Alexx V has a 20 Hz – 32 kHz +/- 3 dB frequency response with a 92 dB @ 1W @ 1m @ 1k claimed sensitivity. Nominal Impedance is rated at 4 ohms with a 2 ohm minimum @ 250 Hz.
Also borrowed from the WAMM Master Chronosonic, Alexx V gets the company's latest cable management system. As well as looking good, this cable management system is said to offer a superior solution to achieving the perfect length of speaker cable for each of the upper modules as they are adjusted for correct time-alignment. As part of this design, there is an illumination cross-brace with a custom-made Sono 1 Coolfall light for ease of installation in low-light environments.
Alexx V is said to be extraordinarily adaptable, thanks to features such as its XLF reversible woofer port and independently adjustable upper modules. We are told that every driver is now better aligned and more on-axis with the listener. The upshot here is that Alexx V promises outstanding micro-detail and tighter time-alignment accuracy at all listening positions.
Wilson Audio has also launched its new Acoustic Diode spike system with Alexx V. Featuring a novel combination of austenitic stainless steel and V-Material, it is said to be a significant upgrade to the company's previous solution. This coupling system was created by Wilson Audio's Special Applications Engineering (WASAE) division and has superlative vibration management that reveals far greater dynamic nuances across the entire frequency spectrum.
Finally, Alexx V sports X-Material enclosures with V-Material nested in strategic locations (gantry cross-brace and the top of the woofer), resulting in Vibration control and upper module isolation close to Chronosonic XVX levels.
The Wilson Audio Alexx V is available to order now with pricing confirmed to be £139,000, including VAT and installation.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
