Winemaker Penfolds Unveils Grange 70th Anniversary Record Player Console
Vinyl and wine. Is there a better combination? Australia's most famous winemaker has announced its plans for a limited edition record player console in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Grange.
Only seven individually crafted pieces have been produced globally, according to Penfolds. The release pays homage to the console all-in-one design made famous in the 1950s, which happens to be the same decade that Penfolds' Max Schubert created Grange.
Max Schubert loved music. When entertaining guests at his home, Schubert's record player would accompany any get together – with wine and music always the focal point.
Each console is said to be handcrafted in the tradition of fine bench-made furniture by SYMBOL Audio. It is created by a single craftsman using time-honoured techniques totalling 100 hours of work; it brings together analog electronics with digital technology, though exact details are absent.
Tucked away in the hidden wine compartment is a rare 'White Capsule' release Grange magnum duo from the 2010 and 2017 vintage. Complementing the wine is a suite of luxury accessories, including a hand-blown Grange Decanter crafted by leading Australian glass artist and designer Nick Mount.
