Woo Audio Visits Australia

Woo Audio's front-man Jack Wu, all the way from Queens, New York, visited Australia this month to talk about their new head-fi products. StereoNET had the pleasure of meeting Jack, along with Woo Audio's Australian distributor George Poutakidis, Managing Director of Addicted to Audio and Busisoft, to learn more about the company over a few bottles of red wine and fine Greek cuisine.
Very much a family affair, Woo Audio was started by Jack's father in 2003 shortly after building himself a headphone amplifier to achieve the best possible sound quality from Sennheiser headphones. Dissatisfied with the commercial headphone amplifiers available at the time, Wei Wu knew he had created something special, and together with sons Jack and Zhidong, Woo Audio was now a commercial company.
Wei is the brains behind the designs and responsible for the technical design and aspects of the products, self-taught with now over 40 years experience, each product proudly wears the Woo Audio name. Jack is responsible for pre and post sales, marketing and quality control, while Zhidong oversees all manufacturing processes, to the high quality standard that father Wei has set for the company. Jack is quick to point out however that between the members of the family, they all wear different hats but are hands on in all aspects of the company.
Woo Audio honed in on the high-end head-fi market quite early, and with their product releases in recent years enjoying great support from enthusiasts around the globe are now enjoying success and continued growth.
It's not just all about head-fi though, Woo Audio also produce a small range of amplifiers more than capable of driving loudspeakers, as well as a DAC and CD Transport in the line-up. One thing's for sure, Woo Audio are here to stay and Jack and co. are excited about the future, new products and refining their existing range to enhance the listening experience, whether it be head-fi or hi-fi.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
