Xiaomi Introduces Transparent OLED TV
Chinese consumer electronics brand Xiaomi is celebrating its tenth anniversary and has released several new products to mark the occasion. Of interest, is the fully transparent 55-inch Mi TV LUX OLED TV.
It looks like a mostly transparent sheet of glass on a massive base, giving the appearance of a clear window when off, but when turned on, makes the images appear as if they are floating.
According to the spec sheet, it claims a static contrast ratio of 150,000:1, 10-bit colour, and 93% coverage of DCI-P3. The panel is capable of refreshing at 120Hz and also offers 120Hz MEMC motion interpolation. There's also an impressive 1ms pixel response time, but the resolution is only stated as 1920 x 1080 pixels, so no 4K here.
Featuring the MediaTek 9650 chipset with Xiaomi's AI Master Smart Engine image processing, it offers over 20 optimization algorithms and dedicated optimization for five major use scenarios. There's also a feature called AI Master for Audio, which is said to detect the type of content being played and automatically select the appropriate audio mode - there's also support for Dolby Atmos.
According to Xiaomi this TV cannot be wall-mounted and is designed exclusively to be placed on its circular base - but would you want to anyway? The Xiaomi transparent OLED isn't aimed at those chasing the ultimate in picture quality, but its transparent glass screen sure is cool.
Neither UK availability nor pricing has been confirmed as yet, but it goes on sale overseas this month for USD $7,200.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
