Yamaha Expands Desktop Audio and Receiver Range

Yamaha is adding to its desktop audio and receiver offerings lineups with the MusicCast 200 (TSX-N237D) and the R-N600A, both slated for release later in the year.
The MusicCast 200 adds to Yamaha’s TSX desktop audio series, allowing for playback from sources like CD, DAB+ radio, USB and Bluetooth. In addition, this new model comes with new network features to take advantage of Yamaha’s MusicCast multi-room/multi-source audio control system.
The control system allows for streaming to other MusicCast-compatible devices and offers volume and source control via the dedicated MusicCast CONTROLLER smartphone app. The MusicCast 200 comes with a clean tabletop surface that also has a Qi wireless charging coil integrated, meaning devices like smartphones can be placed atop and charged wirelessly.
Inside, the MusicCast 200 has newly developed 8cm, 2-way coaxial speakers that Yamaha claims will deliver “accurate reproduction over a wide frequency range”.
The R-N600A Network Receiver has also been announced as an entry-level component in Yamaha’s new generation of Hi-Fi receivers built around ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology). The R-N600A uses ESS’ SABRE ES9010K2M 384kHz 32-bit with an original network module by Yamaha that the company claims will allow the receiver to thoroughly draw out “all the sonic merits of ultra-high-resolution sound sources”.
The “Art Base” resin frame of the chassis also minimises vibrations to avoid affecting the sound, along with Pure Direct Mode, which allows signals to travel through the shortest possible circuit route to bypass the buffer amp and tone controls, avoiding any signal degradation.
The R-N600A also supports DSD 11.2MHz native playback along with 384kHz playback with phono input terminals for direct connections to turntables for the vinyl lovers out there. The receiver is also compatible with MusicCast, allowing for easy streaming to any MusicCast-compatible devices in the house.
The Yamaha R-N600A Network Receiver will sell for £699/ €799, with stock expected in October. Meanwhile, the MusicCast 200 Multimedia System will be priced at £599/ €699.

applause awards
Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.
Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.
The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.
We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
