AKG K-SERIES FOLDING STUDIO HEADPHONES ANNOUNCED
AKG has announced the UK availability of a trio of K-series foldable studio headphones - the K175, K245 and the K275.
The K175 is a closed-back design with 40mm drivers, the K245 is a semi-open design with 50mm drivers, and the K275 is a closed-back design with 50mm drivers.
As a musician on-the-go, I know there are many tools to help us on the road; from compact audio interfaces for recording ideas to lightweight and portable amplifiers; however, there are not so many folding studio-grade headphones out there.
Enter AKG's new range of gig bag-friendly studio cans. Designed for everyone, including musicians and audio professionals, the AKG K275, K245, and K175 are the first headphones in their class offering a foldable design. Now we can have unmatched sound quality as well as portability.
The new headphones feature an innovative three-axis all-metal hinge that enables them to fit into tight spaces such as a travel bag or guitar case where other studio headphones won’t fit.

AKG Portable Studio Headphones
The K275 and K245 models feature largest-in-class 50mm transducers, providing greater low-frequency extension and detailed bass reproduction; whereas, the K175 uses an on-ear design with largest-in-class, 40mm transducers.
All three models boast superb clarity and detail, making it easier to create mixes that translate well across different playback systems.
Additionally, the trio feature best-in-class sensitivity and low impedance. The result of which is maximum output before distortion, even when playing music from lower-powered mobile devices.
Long-lasting comfort is supplied by a self-adjusting headband and floating ear cups. The slow-retention foam ear pads provide a comfortable, secure fit that ensures optimal bass extension and prevents sound from leaking out into the surrounding environment - handy when sharing a hotel room or trying to grab some practice time in the back of the van/bus.
AKG K275 and K175 feature a closed-back design for live recording and monitoring, while K245 features a semi-open design that is well-suited for editing and mixing.
All critical parts of the design are metal, including the hinge. An extensive product testing regimen, including extreme drop tests, an 80,000-bend-cycle test for cables and a rigorous driver stress test, ensures that the headphones will last through heavy use - even by drummers. Finally, the cable is replaceable to maximise value and investment.
Price and availability
The AKG K175 has an RRP of £109 and the AKG K245 sports a £129 RRP. The RRP for the AKG K275 is £149. All are available now.
